We should try to get ourselves more involved _- in education. If you get interested in lots of sub- jects and learn well and read, then you are de- veloping your brain. You can enjoy the knowled- 'ge of the world and when you are well edu- cated you can help oth- ers. People who are well educated are more un- derstanding and have mote responsibilities. Some older people or our parents can't read or write and some aren't very smart. This is be- cause they didn't have much education. Some might have had to work and support their fa- mily instead of going to school, some parents might not have been able to afford it. and some got married at an early age and had child- ren. We are very lucky to be able to go to schools, universities, have a chance to have a good job and good life, be- cause there are people in the third world or the sick, who don't have that special gift. Now, try to picture yourselves having jobs' like sweeping floors or collecting garbage, now try to picture yoursel- ves being a doctor, law- yer or teacher. I know I would want to have the good job and I think you would too. So try to get well educated and let your brain develop. In order to get a good job you have to have an education. In the olden days people thought that all women were just supposed to be housewives. and have children, so they couldn't go to school. By law, today, all child- ren between the ages of six and sixteen must attend school. I am very gtateful to be able to go all the way to college or university. Some of your parents only went to about grade eight or a: little higher grade be- cause they had to get jobs to support their families. I don't really like the idea about hav- ing to pay so much to get into college or university but I guess it is worth it. If you really want to be something when you grow up like a doctor or a lawyer, I advise you to 'go right through high school and into college or university. Education can be very -- interesting, but if you think it's boring, which most of you do, you will find that the days and weeks are going by very slow. Learning can be fun for all people if you have a téacher who likes to tell stories and have nice laughs with you like my teacher Miss Hol- land. Some people in school make fun of their teacher. But I don't know why they do be- cause teachers are. very important. Some kids today are thinking of dropping out of school and not going to college or university. But later' on when they are work- ing at little jobs, not getting paid good money, they realize they should go back to school because they want a better job. Well, now that *you know a lot about education, I hope Lindsay Turcotte Grade 1 My Kitten is black. 'She likes to get into things. She lives in my home. I love my kit- ten. Her name is Snow- ball. She eats catfood. She drinks milk. She likes flowers. She likes to play outside. She likes to catch birds. She sleeps on my bed. She likes to clean her fur with her tongue. Her fur is soft. I like to hold her. Snowball does not like water. She likes to sit in the sun. Snowball purrs when she is happy. She is my best pet. Some- times dogs chase her. She runs fast. It is very nice to have a pet. Kim McColeman Grade 6 You should have an education because if you didn't you won't get anywhere. An education is very important. If you tried to work in a hospit- al without an education you would probably mix up the charts. If you tried to work anywhere else you would mix up some way or another. If you wanted a really good job you need an educa- tion. Some people don't care if they go to college or univeristy. Then when their friends have a good job and you are just waiting on tables or sweeping floors, you realize that they did the right thing. You must be able to comprehend so you get your driver's licence or get a good job or just read a good book. If you can't read then you can't do any of these things. If you quit school at an early age and work where there is a lot of money, you may realize that it. was wrong to leave school, then you decide to go back to school after you have Danielle St. Amand Grade 6 Education is a very important part of your life. If it wasn't for edu- cation the whole world would be mixed up. Everybody who had be- come sick with a dis- ease would have no hope because there would be no doctors to treat them. Also if there wasn't any education. most pa- rents wouldn't know how to take care of their young. Almost all teen- agers would have pro- bably ended up with a criminal record of some kind. Like lots of little children, they take ideas from people bigger than them. If parents and friends were all without education, the child would think that it was the thing to do. Did you ever won- der what it was like at school a long time ago? The punishment was a lot more serious than to- day. If you were late you would have to stay after school and clean up the schoolyard and do the blackboards. If you talk- ed back to the teachers which seldom child- ren did, you would be put back a grade. But some things teachers did back then would have got them fired if they did the same thing today. One thing was if the teacher caught you snoozing you would be suddenly awakened when he hit you over the head with a leather glove or burnt your an- kles. Another thing was if you were caught mocking the teacher you would be sent to the dungeon. That was a 'dark closet that usually had a rat or two. But now, some children get away with anything. When you go to high school you should try to take in as much as you cai so you can broad- en your knowledge and make your education you all go right through been out for about three more full.
