Voyageur Hiking Trail The Voyageur Hiking Trail will be holding their Annual Clean Up Hike "Going to Blazes" on Saturday, May 12, 1984. The trail runs from Terrace Bay to Ross- port with many exciting spots in between. The hike is open to all ages. Schreiber Centennial-1985 In May of 1885 the last spike on the north shore of the CPR was driven. Thus Eastern Canada was finally con- nected to the Canadian: West. The location now known as Schreiber was selected as a divisional point and soon homes and shops began to appear. Schreiber was not officially incorporat- ed as a township until 1901, but the real birth of our town came with the opening of the rail- way in 1885. For this reason, Schreiber will be celebrating its 100th birthday next year. The purpose of this news release is three fold. First of all, this centennial celebration is not connected in any way to Ontario's bi- centennial which is be- ing celebrated through- out Ontario this year, besides in our own com- munity. Secondly, the town- ship has appointed three people to initially serve on a basic committee to plan the celebrations. The committee has de- cided that our birthday will be held during the first week of July in 1985. Our first task is to inform the general pub- lic about the dates so we can invite all former residents to a home- coming in July of 1985. In a few days a question- naire will be sent to all residents of Schreiber asking them for names and addresses of rela- tives who have left our town. We would like to receive this informa- tion so that we can personally contact them in ample time, so fami- lies can plan their holi- days. We would also ap- preciate this informa- tion from any former residents of Schreiber who now live in Ter- race Bay or other sur- rounding communifies. The basic committee to date has just planned the time that our cen- tennial will be held. We have not planned speci- fic events which will be co-ordinated this sum- mer and fall. If anyone is interested in serving on this centennial com- mittee, please leave your name at the Muni- cipal Office or contact one of the members listed below: Fred Har- ness, or Councillors Mike Cosgrove and Tom Quinton.
