A colder climate, higher fuel costs and 'sometimes a lack of technological expertise all contribute to this chilling statistic. There's not too much northerners can do to change Mother Nature's ideas but many have de- cided to combat the use of "imported" fuels such as gas, oil and hydro through the use of woodstoves.
