poet , 4 COTRET ""An Old Man's Memory" I saw again the other day the town where dwells my heart And though I do not live there now, I'll never be apart From all the golden memories and the treasures that I found When I was young and life was gay, with. loved ones all around. I heard again the laughter and the happy, lilting voice Of dear Delena, as we revelled in-the joys Of youthful love and romance with the blessing of God's grace And I felt the tears of happiness flow sweetly down my face. \For, etched within my memory, those days will never fade, And time cannot erase the joy of all the friends I've made; The tenderness, the happy hours, the beauty of that time When life was sunshine, flowers, a poem and every word a rhyme. 2 And as I sit here dreaming about riches, wealth and fame, : I know that I've amassed much more than an man could claim; , For I have known the bounty of the world's most sacred gift - The love of woman, children, friends and life most deeply lived. These cherished jewels are safely locked forever in my mind; An old man's precious wisdom these thoughts gentle, pure and kind. As I watch the sunset from my chair in Dawson Court A younger man inside me is picking flowers in Rossport. This poem along with many others that I have in my possession, was written by my father, the late Joseph King, who was a commercial fisher- man at Rossport for over fifty years. He and my mother, the former Delena Legault, were married and raised their family in Rossport before moving to Thunder Bay. My dad was 86 years old when he wrote this poem. I would like to congratulate you, your staff and reporters on a very fine job. Keep up the "Good News."' Most sincerely, Mrs. M.
