Township of Terrace Bay crew were kept busy on the front-end loader, attempting to clean up after last week's large accumulation of snow. Wednesday, January 11, 1984 Terrace Bay Schreib POT 2wW0 Public Library Terrace Bay Ontario Cele lan - 7th Annual Sibley Ski Tour Grab your toques ... wax up those skis ... and come one, come all to the 7th Annual Sibley Ski Tour to be held on March 3rd at Sibley Provincial Park Boun- dary at Pass Lake. ; Participants may choose from the 50 km route which offers the seasoned cross-country skier a challenge and the opportunity to test their skill and stamina; or the 40 km route which is popular with the "not so seasoned' skier who merely wishes to enjoy a fun day's outing; or the 20 km route that is de- signed to be shorter trail, suitable for fami- lies or small groups. All -skiers complet- ing any one of the 20 and 40 km distances will re- ceive a bronze achieve- ment medallion indicat- ing the distance com- pleted. For the 50 km, medals will be awarded as follows: Gold (within 10 per cent of the average of the 3 fastest skiers in your class); Silver (within 25 per cent of the average of the 3 fastest skiers in your class); and the Bronze (for completing the distance). Age classes for both men and women are: 19 and under; 20-29; 30- 39; 40-49; and 50 and over. Special recognition will be given to: The Oldest and Youngest skier for each event; The Family Touring Award: to the 3 family members of a family unit, one of whom must be 15 years or younger who have the lowest total accumulat- ed time/distance aver- age for a minimum of 130 km.; The Family Distance Award: pre- sented to the family unit which compiles the highest total number of kilometers skied; all routes are eligible and any number of family unit members' may count. The Fastest Skiers Awards: present- ed to the top 3 men and women to complete the 50 km distance. The Woodymakeit: present- ed to the first skier to complete the 50 km dis- tance on wood skis and The Corporate Cup: club, school or busi- ness completing the most number of km (any number but this does not include family * members). Entry dead- line for this is Feb. 25th/84. Your entry fee in- cludes: - refreshments and snacks en route - a medallion for finish- ing - a souvenir bib num- ber - special recognition award - Official results bro- chure - a fantastic day of ski- ing - First-Aid services - a 'Sibley Ski Tour Crest" a - transportation from the finish back to the start © area - future newsletters (1 year). See you on the trails! _ More funding for Manitouwadge A community plan- ning study grant of $14,100 has been awarded to the Town- ship of Manitouwadge, Claude Bennett, Minis- ter of Municipal Af- fairs and Housing, an- nounced today. The grant will be used to prepare an official plan for the area, in an- ticipation of growth that will result from activi- ties in the Hemlo gold mining area. Community plan- ning study grants are designed to encourage municipalities to re- solve land use planning issues to reflect munici- pal and economic prior- ities. They may also ~be used for special studies to develop community improvement policies, to determine the feasi- bility of using data pro- cessing technology in the local planning pro- cess and to assist in im- plementing the Planning Act. No, they are not dead. These students of the Terrace Bay Public School were busy making "snow-angels" for the photographer. o Just how do you get the centre part onto the bottom part of a snowman? These students used their heads. By stacking bodies, they were able to 'roll' the large snowball to the desired spot.
