Terrace Bay Council.... continued from page 1 him their full support on this venture. Motions: By-Law #15-83 regar- ding the assumption of the generating station road was given much discussion. This 66 ft. strip of land will be turned into a public road with maintenance provi- ded by the township. Bill Houston was concer- ned about fixing up the road but Reeve Speer said that he wasn't con- cerned with major re- pairs on the pavement. If this must be looked at in the near future, the township should give consideration to remov- ing the pavement and replacing it with a gravel road. Council therefore passed by-law #15-83. A motion was made to pay the following ac- counts: Township: $486,060.27; Hydro: $49,094.90 and Library: $4,390.60. Committee Reports: From Joe Kennedy: He recently attended a conference concern- ing hydro and he took the opportunity there to express his concerns about the services that Terrace Bay should be receiving but are not. He expressed the-need for an additional hydro crew and also related the fact that the town is still experiencing diffi- culties with the lighting situation. Public Works: One engine was lost in the township truck but warranty covered. the costs. He stated that things are running smoothly in the Public Works department. Police: George Ramsey stat- ed that the township may be receiving some overtime bills for the police department due to court costs, etc. He commented on the Plan- ning Committee which was held recently in Thunder Bay and thought it to be a very informative and worth- while session with a good question and an- swer period and also a wide variety of Resource People. Library: Bill Houston reported all was well with the library and no issues were brought up at the last meeting. From Reeve Speer: Speer commented on his recent dinner with the Minister of Northern Affairs Leo Bernier which took place two weeks ago in Marathon. Attending the dinner with him was Clerk Co- ordinator Larry Simons. He also suggested Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, October 19, 1983, page 7 that council get in touch with the Ministry of Northern Affairs regard- ing the setting up of an Economic Development Committee. Other Business: Council felt that the lighting problems in Terrace Bay should be given full consideration. They may have to look into the possibility of erecting more lights. Many complaints have been received about the street lights and it was decided that the angle of the lighting would be looked into as well as contacting the contract- ors who installed the system, to brief them on the various problems. The meeting was ad- journed by motion of council. Get your life in shape. New Low-cost insurance designed so you can afford permanent protection today.
