Waste Oil Furnaces by JANE E. GREER In an attempt to beat the rising costs of home heating and to conserve energy, many individuals are choosing non- traditional types of heating compounds for their homes. A new type of heating practice that is appearing now is the use of the Waste-Oil Furnace. These furnaces are designed to operate on used oil, drained from motor-vehicle crankcases. Considering the costs of conventional fuel in an oil furnace, the costs of utilizing a waste oil fur- nace appear to be a real bargain. Not so! A waste oil furnace may cause more problems than its worth. As well as contraven- ing legislation from the Energy Act, (ad- ministered by the Fuel Safety Branch of the TERRACE BAY SCHREIBER PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE CLUB ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Thurs. Sept. 15, 1983 at 7:30 p.m. Chimo Club, Schreiber There will be an election of officers and other annual business. Memberships will be available for Provincial and Federal Riding Association at the meeting. NOTICE VOLUNTEERS WANTED Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Rela- tions) constituting an il- legal action, the use of waste oil could cause lethal fires. When used as a fuel, waste oil is poten- tially dangerous, as it may contain high concen- trations of gasoline or other highly flammable solvents! As well the use of waste oil is considered a threat to the environ- ment as it is con- taminated with heavy metals and chemical compounds. No waste oil furnaces are approved for sale or use in Ontario. So if you are approached and of- fered a good deal in energy savings on a waste oil furnace, please remember it's not only il- legal ... it's dangerous! For more information on Waste Oil Furnaces please contact your nearest Northern Affairs Office, located on the lower floor Peninsula Building, Marathon, On- tario or phone 229-1153 or Zenith 33160.
