= Minor Hockey News The Schreiber Minor Hockey Association will be hosting their Annual Bantam "B" Invitation- al Hockey Tournament on January 15, 1983. The Schedule for Satur- day is as follows: 10:00 - 11:30 Nipigon vs Manitou- wadge 11:30 - 1:00 Terrace Bay vs Red Rock _ 1:00 - 2:30 Schreiber vs River 2:30 - 4:00 Longlac vs Nipigon 4:00 - 5:30 Current Letter... continued from page 3 if you are too lazy to walk it, don't have it. A couple of years ago Mr. Hanley's small dog tied in his own back yard was beaten and mauled by a breed of dog known as a Husky. Sometime later Mr. Brassard's small dog also tied in his own back yard was also beaten and mauled, again by a Husky. Two Huskies in fact. Now a child has been bitten, once again by a Husky. Doesn't that ring a bell with you Husky owners? I have owned several of this breed of dog over the years. They are not a dependable pet, and especially not around children and other small breeds of dogs. They belong on a sled not sashaying around town making a nuisance of themselves and playing at being the bully of the town. While walking my dogs last Sunday in the woods I was met by a Husky, who seemed to think he owned all the woods around Terrace, and again I resent havy- ing to go armed with a stick to protect my pets, while on public proper- ty. Lots of people in this town say the same thing, "Oh, my dog bothers no one", and I say since most of the time you don't exercise him on a leash, how would or could you possibly know that? A dog out by himself is not of the same nature as when he has his owner with him. Older people walk their pets in this town, and admit they are terrified of going too far away from their own -- yards in case they meet a big dog, so now I would like to know why in a town of this size are the dog control rules not put into force, and kept in force, all the time. Perhaps the town laws are not strict enough, there are places where the laws governing dogs on the loose, that give owners a first warning, the second time you don't get a warning, instead your dog is shot by the police and then you are called up to inform you that your dog has been destroyed and to inform you where you can pick up the carcass. Is that the kind of law it would take to tell dog © owners that they are breaking the rules of the town? And another problem breed in this town are Dobermans, they are Manitouwadge vs Terrace Bay 5:30 - 7:00 Red Rock vs Schreiber 7:00 - 8:30 Longlac vs Curent River The Sunday Schedule consisting of 5 games will be determined by the outcome of Satur- day's games. Come on out and catch the fun and excitement. Support your Minor Hockey Association. The Schreiber Minor Hockey Association will also be hosting an Atom Invitational Hockey also a breed that needs to be well disciplined, and most certainly be on a leash, I have two in mind, owners come to visit relations, they bring along a Dobe. Do they take said Dobe into the house. No, no they turn it loose to run all over the neighbourhood and never do they seem to check to see if he might be in someone's yard doing things he shouldn't be doing. At his own home it's even worse.. Owners's have a sign in the front win- dow, "Beware of Dog" what I haven't figured out yet is where a person is to be on the lookout for such dog, since he rarely is in his own yard, rather he is running around like he is the only dog that counts in that area. You can see if you know dogs at all, that he is spoilt. Isn't made to mind, and from personal knowledge I know he will bite with- out any cause. The se- cond one is no better, when he gets away from his owner, he won't come back till he is good and ready. While he is on the loose I have notic- ed that some people are afraid of him since they either carry a stick or a chunk of ice while they are out airing their dog. As I asked previously, do we or do we not have dog control rules, be- cause if they aren't go- ing to clean up on dogs on the loose, then I guess it's time to put people on leashes and let these dogs take over the town! And so in closing, if you own a dog, any size or breed, and if you like him, then show it by continued on page 11 Tournament on Febru- ary 5, 6, 1983.
