FEBRUARY 28, 1979 Re TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 3 MRS: Y. RAJOTTE RETIRES FROM ST. MARTIN SCHOOL Mr. B. Haas, Vice-Chairman of the North of Superior Dist. R.C.S.S. Board with Mrs. Y. Rajotte. December 22, 1978 marked the end of 17 years of teaching for Yolande Rajotte at St. Martin School. Many of the child- ren plus young adults of Terrace Bay have had the opportunity to experience a year or two of learning under the guidance of a teacher committed to their academic and moral development. While keeping up with educational trends, Yolande maintained a traditional and disciplined classroom. Her dedication was particularly evident in her early arrival at school each morn- ing. "When | got to school before Yolande, | knew she was sick", says Evelyn Falzetta. Yolande fondly remembers the St. Martin School of years past. One of her classrooms for a couple of years was the St. Martin Church basement, where the only means of telling time was the electric clock in the kitchen which was not very con- veniently placed. Yolande recalls on one occasion dismissing the children early because the school bell could not be heard in the basement. Besides her teaching assignment, Yolande was local staff representative to the Ontario English Catholic Teachers! Assoc -iation and treasurer of the district branch of 0.E.C.T.A. Although Yolande is a private person she did participate in the community through membership in the C.W.L. and Brownie = Guide Association. Among her other interests, Yolande Tikes to drive her car, a car which Tony Speziale identified as a "1906" Plymouth". The school parking 18t hasn't been the same since this venerable car no longer appears every school day at 7:15 a.m. On her retirement, Mrs. Rajotte was honoured for her years of service by her students, colleagues, 0.E.C.T.A. and the North of Superior District R.C.S.S. Board.' Yolande is present -ly making her home with her daughter Elaine Dawson and her grandson Matthew. She hasn't been able to leave teaching com- pletely = she is presently teaching remedial French as a volunteer. Box AVE hg ESROSIERS & SON LTD.
