NORTH SHORE BRIDGE CLUB: Will be starting Thursday, February 1 at 7:30 in Angels School. Holy THE NORTH SUPERIOR SKI CHALLENGE - Saturday, February 24, 1979 This Cross Country Ski Event will consist'of an 18 Km run along sections of the North Superior Hiking Trail. It is open to all recreational skiers. The purpose of the tour is not primarily to race, but rather to enjoy and complete the course An award will be presented to the first entry completing the marathon, while souvenirs will be awarded to all those partici -pating. The awards will be presented at an informal social and lunch to be held at the Schreiber Town Hall starting at 6 p.m. 3 THE TRAIL: The starting point will-be Grahan's Farm (East end of Winnipeg St., Schreiber) at 10:00 a.m. Sat. February 2h. From Graham's skiers will follow a road behind the old dump to North Shore Mines. Skiers will then climb upward via the North Superior, Trail onto Schreiber Point, where they will challenge rugged terrain for 7 Kn in order to reach Schreiber Beach. From this point the old beach road will be followed to Schreiber, with the. finish being at the town hall. Skiers are instructed to follow the red triangular markers hich designate the trail from North Shore Mines to Schreiber Beach. Areas of difficulty will be encountered, and skiers are encouraged to use their own discretion in deciding whether to walk or ski around these obstacles. Entry Forms available from the Schreiber Recreation Office. CHIMO CLUB PLAN VALENTINE SOCIAL : Thé Chimo Club held their January meeting with Mrs. Helen Wallace, Past President, presiding. One minute silence was 3 observed by the members present, for three members they have Tost in the past months, all were very saddened by the loss. Members who have volunteered to work at the Chimo Centre on Mondays were thanked. : The home bingo for January has been organized by Mrs. Wal- lace and Committee, another bingo will be arranged for Feb. At a special Chimo meeting, Miss Kaye Haggig and Miss J. Garwood of Thunder Bay, and Mr. Nom Norris and Miss A. Giroux of Schreiber Parks and Recreation attended, and explained the set up for the Elderly Persons Centres Act. Our February meeting will be a Valentine Social and Pot Luck Tunch. 3 i The meeting was followed by lunch served by the Social Com- mittee. = 3 SCHREIBER ART CLUB Colleen Glad presided at the regular meeting of the Schreib -er Art Club on January 15. Monday afternoon is still adult sessions, with assistance, if necessary, Wednesday evening is open to adults with assistance available. A weekend workshop is being planned, more detail on this later. The next meeting will be on February 5 in the after noon, please plan to be in attendance. PROVINCIAL AID FOR SCHREIBER SEWAGE SCHREIBER == The Ontario government will invest $116,000 to- wards improvements to existing water and sewage systems here, Northern Affairs minister Leo Bernier announced today. Mr. Bernier said an agreement between the Ministry oF" Northern Affairs and the Township of Schreiber will allow the municipality to extend present services to include an out- laying recreation complex. The new system will be funded by Northern Affairs and will also serve as a base for future requi red development. "As part of an ongoing program," Mr. Bernier explained, Nthe ministry assesses community needs and establishes priorities accordingly. Un Schreiber's case, the result is a vastly improved infrastructure. Last year we funded the construction of a chlorination plant to purify the town water supply. Up- grading the sewage and water facilities now available is an extension of the program. "Communi ties throughout 'the north, in everincreasing numbers, benefit from programs such as fhis; through effic- ient municipal servicing and improved lifestyles, Northern AMfairs is providing for future growth.
