ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP TEA : St. Martin of Tours Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada held its annual Membership Tea on Sunday, May 6th at 7:30 p.m. ; The opening ceremony was held in the church beginning with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The installation and blessing of the newly elected officers followed: Mrs. R. Belliveau, president; Mrs. J, Kennedy, past president; Mrs. Y. Rajotte, treasurer; Mrs. J, Johnston, secretary; Mrs. F, Roen, 1st vice president; Mrs. L. Haas, 2nd vice president and Mrs. Re Mikkonen, 3rd vice president. Mrs. Norma Cavanaugh was escorted to the alter by Mrs. Peggy Helmink where she was presented with her 50 year service pin. Father M, Murtagh blessed her pin and mentioned the fact that St. Martin's council has been functioning for only 25 years and so it was a great honour for us to have a member who has served the League for 50 years. His prayer is that this remarkable achievement will be an encouraging example to many other: members to keep on participating in the League and serving their neighbours with continuing charity. |RIVERDALE MARKET GARDEN Mrs. Belliveau opened the meeting with the League Prayer and the prayer for the Holy Father. She gave a warm welcome to the numerous ladies in attendance and a special greeting to the new members. : Mrs. Haas read some thoughts A, to "Mothers Day" and a poem "Little Treasurers", The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the new correspondence was read. Mrs. Rajotte presented the treasurer's report. Mrs. Cavanaugh asked Mrs. Helmink to say a few words on her behalf about how pleased and thankful she was to receive her pin. Her overwhelming feeling of emotion prevented her from saying the words herself. A letter was read from Father Gerry Le Strat 0.M.l the C.W.L, for the clothing etc. which was sent to the Red" Lake-Kenora Missions. The annual clothing drive will be car- ried out in the near future. If anyone has any good used ar- ticles they are asked to bring them to the parish hall. Mrs. Mary Dashkewytch will convene the first of a regular monthly coffee time which will follow the 10:30 a.m. Mass on the first Sunday in June. All parishioners are cordially in- vited to attend and meet the new members of our parish. Memberships 78 will be taken after each Mass for the next few Sundays. All Catholic women are urged to join. The total number of C.W,L, members in Canada is influenced by each one of us. The voice of Catholic Women is so much stronger with increased memberships. The final meeting before the summer recess will be held in June. We look forward to seeing as many ladies as possible at that meeting. The tea was convened by Mrs. Claire Roen and included some very enjoyable singing by a very talented group "The Youth Choir, They are directed by Alina Syposz and the participating members that evening were: Patricia Paukstys, Maureen Haas, Colette Barry and Denise Vienneau. The prizes were won by Yolande Rajotte, Liz Malashewski and Mary Monier Williams. ~~ _ JOHN & MARY SYPOSZ, OWNERS BEDDING 4 ou T ; wali ig PLANTS *GERANI UMS *BEGONIAS *EUSCHIAS *TOMATO PLANTS *ASSORTMENT OF HANGING BASKETS R.R. #3, Thunder Bay, F, Ont.
