MAY 10, 1978 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 3 BOARD OF MANAGEMENT INAUGURAL MEETING The inaugural meeting of the Board of Management of the District of Thunder Bay Home for the Aged was held at Pine- wood Court on April 28th, 1978. Elections of Officers took place with Mrs. Lillian Morrow elected as Chairman, replacing Mr. Alex Daneff, Chaiman for the past two years. Mr. Harold. J. McParland was elected Vice Chairman and Mrs. Verna Peltonen as Secretary-Treasurer. The tem of office will be for one year ending April, 1979. 1 The regular meeting began at twelve noon with accounts totalling $107,013.09 approved for the two Homes. Five new Resident applications were also approved when space is avail- able, The Board authorized two Board members to attend the Regional Conference on May 31st - June 2nd together with threg staff members from. Birchwood Terrace and three from Pinewood Court also attending. At this Conference Pinewood Court will be giving a one=half day seminar on Budgeting in a Home. The Board endorsed Senior Citizens' Week of June 18th to 24th, encouraging Residents, Staff and Volunteers involvement Board approval was given for changing the Resident beds at Bi rchwood Terrace from seventy-five to sixty-two. The Admin- istrator, Mr. M.J. Vibert, explained that this was the num- ber of beds available at the present time as a number of rooms are rented out for other purposes. A report was made to the Board on the potential loss of revenue when the new McCausland Hospital is completed. Pres- ently the Board is supplying the meals, heating and rental of two rooms. The Liquor Control Board have been asked to defer the licencing of Pinewood Court and Birchwood Terrace. The Director has been asked for literature on the merits of hav- ing a bar in the Home. This will be reviewed with the Board and the Home Physicians prior to any decision to proceed with the licencing. Information was received from the Ministry advising that the Residents! portion of the basic Extended Care rate will be going from $8.30 to $8.50 as of May 1st. The next Board meeting will be held at Birchwood Terrace on May 26th. PINEWOOD COURT CELEBRATES TEN YEARS Last Friday, April 28th, Pinewood Court was busy celebrat- ing its tenth year of operation. Pinewood Court is operated under the direction of the Board of Management, District of Thunder Bay Home for the Aged. Pinewood serves the needs of Senior Citizens throughout the District excluding the City of Thunder Bay, who have their own homes. The theme of the day of celebration was "The Home with a Heart," Guests, Residents and Staff were treated to a Wine and Cheese Party. The afternoon started off with greetings from the Administrator, Mr. Milton J. Vibert then was follow- ed by greetings from the Chaiman of the Board, Mr. Alex Daneff from Geraldton. Alsc in attendance was Mr. Mickey Hennessey, M,L.A, for Fort William who also greeted the gath- ering. Following the opening ceremonies a number of Donations were given. The Pinewood Court's Auxiliary donated a Piano which they raised part of the funding and the rest was DAVE DESROSIERS & SON LTD.
