PAGE 4 TERRACE BAY NEWS APPROVAL FOR WAGE AND POLICY SCHEDULE The regular meeting of the Board of Manage- ment of the District of Thunder Bay Home for the Aged was held in Geraldton's Council Cham- bers on July 27th, 1977. The Board met at 3:00 p.m. with five (5) Board Members present. Missing was Don Rice who is in hospital and Trevor Kerr-Taylor who is on holidays. Passed were accounts totalling $108,032.58, two applications for admission one for Birch- wood Terrace and the other for Pinewood Court. Ranta and Tett Architects were authorized to proceed with Tenders for the Sauna at Pinewood Court. z Final approval was given to the Wage and Policy Schedule between the Board of Management and the employees of Pinewood Court and Birch- wood Terrace for the period January lst, 1976 to March 31st, 1978. Anti-Inflation Board has given approval to the Agreement. This was re- ceived on July 11, 1977. The Agreement had a _ catch up term January lst, 1976 to March 31st, 1976. An 'eight (8%) per cent increase for the first twelve (12) months April 1, 1976 to March 31, 1977 and, six (6%) per cent increase for the following year. This brings the emplo- yees of Pinewood Court to the same rates as paid to the City Homes. The Agreement does not cover the Heads of Staff and the Registered Nurses, who operate on different Agreements. Back pay cheques were paid on July 29th, 1977. An amended Operating Budget was approved which included the new pay rates and will mean a change in the per diem rates. Authorization to attend the Homes for the Aged Convention in Toronto from September 25 to September 28th, 1977 was given for five. staff and two Board Members. The meeting was then opened to those attend- ing which included members of Geraldton Council and Senior Citizens from Geraldton and Beard- more. Chairman, Alex Daneff after a brief re- sume of the present activities of the Board and their operation of the Homes, asked for questions from the floor. Questions mainly dealt with the Senior Citizens living in the community and ways and means to assist them when needed. Geraldton is presently putting a twenty bed addition: to Fisher Court which is a Senior Citizens low rental unit. Plans are also going forward to initiate a program where- by residents of Barker Hall will be assisting residents of Fisher Court and, of the community in Geraldton with needed services. 7 This pro- gram is to start in October. This meeting ended with a presentation of a Petition signed by a number of residents of the Beardmore, Longlac and Nakina Area asking the -AUGUST 10, 1972+ Board to consider the building of a Senior = Citizens Home in Geraldton, so that residents in the Area could be closer to their families and the community where they have lived all . their lives. ; Following the meeting the Board was treated to a dinner by the Geraldton Council where memb . -bers of the Geraldton Council and the Improve -ment District of Nakina enjoyed a roast beef dinner. Later they were invited to the home ' of Mr. Mike Powers, Mayor of Geraldton where discussions continued in relation to work with Senior Citizens in the Area, which in- / cludes Beardmore, Longlac, Nakina and Gerald- ton.
