Mrs. Todesco gave a short but interesting paper on the early bus transportation along the North Shore. The first bus service was begun in the spring of 1947 by the Interna- tional Transit Co. owned by the Hurtig family. After trial runs from Port Arthur to Terrace Bay, more buses were ordered and a daily re- turn service was established in the fall of 1947. The fare then was $8.50. Mr. Nelson Smith, a veteran of the First World War, gave an interesting account of his experiences, both sad and humourous, during his years both in France and England. Michael Reid, Public Health Inspector, described his duties in maintaining control of cleanliness and sanitation in public build- ings and the general community by regular in- spections and testing of food products and water. Mrs. Todesco thanked Mr. Reid for their talks. Mrs. Darlene Costa was welcomed as a new member. Lunch was served tiby Mrs. Mavis- Slater .and Mrs. Todesco. A penny auction was enjoyed by members. O'Mara will be here to conduct the confirmation and address members. on "Focus on Faith" at a meeting being held .in Terrace Bay on the same afternoon. Mrs. Teresa Power, Organization convener, reported there are now 185 regular and one hon -orary member in the local C.W.L. Mrs. Lucette Chicoine, Cultural Life con- vener stated there will be a coffee hour in the Parish Centre following the confirmation. Mrs. Simmone Connelly, Social and Economic ¢ convener reported the C.W.L. wreath on Remem- brance day had been laid by Mrs. Rena Ross. Mrs. Gloria Mullins, Resolutions and Legisr lation convener advised members to have any resolutions in to the diocesan convener by December 15th. A report on the Guides 'and Brownies was given by Mrs. Kay Stefurak, Christian Family Life convener. . Mrs. Mary Fummerton, overall convener for the recent Christmas bazaar-tea, thanked C.W.L. members and others in the parish whose dona- tions and work had made the event so success- ful. Draws at the tea had been won as follows: the crocheted couch throw - by Mrs. Addie Smith dark fruitcake by Mrs. Sharon Lamoureaux, light fruit cake by Mrs. Simonne Singleton, and door prize by Mrs. Pattie Quinton. | Mrs. Stortini gave an account of a leader- ship course she and Mrs. Norah McGuire had attended at Arvida Centre on October léth. Copies of the Act of Consecration to the Blessed Virgin have been sent ta all members and it is hoped all members will repeat this prayer each noon hour. Following thé December meeting there will be a Christmas party with gifts exchanged and the value of these was set at $2.00 Mr. P. Gillen, Director of Education North of Superior S.S. Board gave an interesting talk on the formation of the Board and its goals for the next few years. . Mr. Gillen was introduced by Father Meyer and 'thanked by Mrs. Teresa Stortini who pre- sented a gift to him. A social hour followed the meeting with lunch being served.
