REGIONAL MEETING: Cont'd from pg. 12 Mrs. McGuire announced the 1977 Provin- cial Convention will be held in Kingston and Diocesan Convention for 1977 has been changed from Kenora to Fort Frances. Mrs. Carniato described an Organization Workshop held in North Bay in September. Mrs. Salini asked members ta recite the 'Consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary' every day at noon. Mrs. Ramsay then formed the members into - small groups to discuss the reason for belong -ing to the C.W.L., and the satisfaction de- rived from taking part in its work, and ideas on interesting more young people to become members. Reports of these discussions were later presented to the general meeting. The meeting was adjourned with a hymn and prayer after which lunch was served and a visiting hour enjoyed. Members came from both Terrace Bay and Thunder Bay to attend. : SCHOOL NEWS: Cont'd from page 6 .... INITIATION: On October 13, 14, and 15 the Lake Superior High School grade 9 initiation for 1976 took place. The grade 9's were bought in Homeroom bv senior students. This happened on Oct. 13. On October 14 it was dressup day with the grade nines dressing as nurses, babies etc. Some of the masters made their slaves walk in snowsuits and flippers all day. In the after- noon Slave Olympics took place - pillow fights on balance beam, wiener. in the bottle and bubble blowing contest. Points were given to the winners and all the points were totaled up at the end and the winning house with the most points won the trophy. The standings were lst place - Cree, 3nd place - Sioux, 3rd place - Micmac, 4th place - Ojibway. On October 15 there was a stand up assem- bly in the gym during the homeroom period. The trophies were then presented to the best 'allowed to dress them as they pleased. 'of the students were dresses as babies, old girl slave which was Jane Zwarsh and the best boy slave which was Paul Levesque, Awards were presented by Mrs. Achurch, Vicky Colby- Hara and Patsy Gorman. After the awards were presented the slaves masters were called up on stage. Jan Zwarsh's" master was Gordon and Paul Levesque's master was Richard St. Louis. After all this the in- itiation for 1976 ended. Submitted by Vicky Colby-Hara On Wednesday, October 13, the Student Coun- cil of Lake Superior High School hosted its an- nual initiation for first year students. A slave auction was held on this day and the init -iates were sold to the highsst bidder. The first year students were required to know a poem and had to recite it when asked by any of the older students. On Thursday, the masters of the slaves were Some women and some even in their nightgown. One student had the pleasure of being clothed in a Santa Claus costume. 2 The students enjoyed themselves and they ex- perienced good clean fun. It gave them a chance to feel a part of the school and it gave them an opportunity to meet the older students. The initiation helped the students to open up and some of the shy students to mix in with the rest of the student body. On Friday the initiates all dressed under the theme "creeps from mars". The students wore flippers on the feet, green panty hose, a green garbage bag over top of shoulder pads, and antennas on their head. It was quite hum- erous to see these "martians' or "little green men" walking around the school. At the end of the day the students were summoned tn kangaroo court. The student council acted as judge and jury , dressed under the theme "nursery rhymes" The judge 'Little Bo Peep' (Maxine Holland), Continued page 16 ....
