PAGE 14 TERRACE BAY NEWS SEPTEMBER 9, 1976 FRASER SURPRISE PARTY The utterly successful surprise farewell party given to Larry and Kay Fraser proved that a secret can be kept by an entire com- munity. The event, held in the curling rink, began with George and Joy Riley taking the Frasers to dinner in the Rossport Inn and afterward suggesting they go on to the rink, where, sup- posedly, another club was holding an open social evening. Instead, the Frasers found members of the ladies and men's curling clubs, the Legion and its auxiliary, the Art Club, the U.C.W., and many other friends in the community gaths ered to wish them well in their new home in . Red Rock, where Mr. Fraser will be vice prin- cipal in the High School. On behalf of the crowd there, and others in the community, Joe Figliomeni presented them with matching wallets containing Olympic coins, and a cheque, in token of their good wishes and appreciation of the parts they had played in the community. They also received a corsage and boutonniere as they entered the hall. Mr. Fraser, who had been vice prin- cipal of the Lake Superior High School also received a presentation, along with other ad- ministrative staff, leaving the schools ad- ministered by the Lake Superior Board of Ed- ucation, at an occasion arranged in Manitou- wadge. BUY A FAIRING IN SCHREIBER Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gerow are considering borrowing a tent to.use until the United Church Annual Fall Fair is over - their spa- cious home presently over flowing with artic- les for the Fair. This is one event which involves the entire community and draws peo- ple from the district as faraway as Thunder Bay for both amusement and, to purchase a "Fairing" - an old English expression of a gift purchased at a Fair. And, for a "fairing" there is almost an un- limited choice - fresh garden produce, house and garden plants, home baking and preserves, home furniture and facilities, a big dinner, (smorgasbord) penny auction and the 'crowning ~ event, the monster auction, when people buy what their neighbours have discarded - all useable, and variety unbelievable. There's also a Kids Korner with the inevitable bal- loons, other toys and quick foods. There will also be the booth of articles made by the As- sociation for Retarded Children, a.most worthwhile cause. Due to the closing of the Arena, the event this year will be held in the curling rink B as follows: Thursday, September 9 - 7:30 to 10:00 - all items and exhibits on display.
