The Schreiber Art Club annual show was a- gain an outstanding success. In addition to the local people visitors from Winnipeg, Thun- der Bay, Nipigon, Marathon and Toronto attend- ed the display of 198 pieces of work. The variety of media included, water colour Acrylic, charcoal, pastels, pencil, india ink and figures. Among the subjects chosen were landscapes, seascapes, portraits, still life, abstract and calligraphy. Mrs. Helen Strickland, who was sponsored by Confederation College to give two teaching sessions to the Club this past season was here for the show. Considerable interest was shown in the dis- play of the school children's exhibit, in a class taught by Colleen Glad, who was sponsor- ed by the Schreiber Recreation Association. One twelve year old artist in the group was delighted when two of her pastels were sold. The display was shown to advantage in the large public school auditorium, on Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon. Guests enjoyed refreshemnts. Tea, coffee and small cakes were served in the corridor by Mrs. Maybelle Furlonger's Committee. All the members worked, with Mrs. Simonne _ Bourgeois, the club president, as the offic- ial hostess. Mrs. Jack Handel won the painting donated by Gwen Hadley and the door prize, donated by Bonnie Dye was won by Mrs. Mona McConnell. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 109, and their Ladies Auxiliary met at the cen -otaph for the ceremony of placing the wreaths which was supposed to have been done on Novem= " ber 11 when the Remembrance Day rites were con ---ducted. However, due to the postal strike the wreaths did not arrive then. i Borden Ross, past president, was M.C. for the occasion when twenty four wreaths were pre -sented form the various business firms in town and other associations. Roy Nesbitt assisted Mr. Ross. PROGRAM FOR AUGUST FIELD DAY DECIDED Two new members, Mrs. Joan Ingram and Mrs. Nova McBride were initiatéd into the member- ship of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 109, by president Lorraine Weaver, "at the regular June meeting. Mrs. Christine Morris reported the member- ship is now seventy six. Mrs. Lorraine Huard reported the recent penny auction was most successful, thanking those who had assisted her. Ten more tablecloths were placed on order, with the cutlery and dishes to be inventoried and their number brought up to 150 settings. Mrs. Georgina Davis reported the Run-a-lap had been successful with eight athletes quali- fying to attend the Peace Garden project. The program was drawn up for the August field day - the usual children's parade, races, free treats, followed by a bingo; the special food booths and ending with a social evening. Letters were sent thanking Cecile Bedard for making the birthday cake and Irma Armstrong for loan of table decorations.
