On March 24, 25 and 26th, the Ministry of Community and Social Services, Senior Citizen- 's Branch, held a Senior Volunteer in Service Workshop at the Airlane Motor Hotel, Thunder Bay, Ontario. Approximately nine Senior Volunteers from the Municipalities of Geraldton, Beardmore, Nipigon, Red Rock, Marathon, Heron Bay, Schrei -ber and Terrace Bay, took part in the pro- gramme planned. A Senior Volunteer is a retired Ontario Senior Citizen (at least 55 years old) of either sex in a community under 25,000 in pop- ulation, who enjoys reasonably good health, is mobile, and knows about his community. A Senior Volunteer in Service must be willing to commit himself, for about a year initially, to the service of other Seniors in his community. The meeting dealt with routine business operation approving accounts totalling SI89, 205.68 and the final payments to Buset Broth- ers Contractors and, the architects Ranta and Tett for the extension to the dining room at Pinewood Court, which has now been completed. The Administrator was authorized to review the air exchange unit in Birchwood Terrace and to report at the next Board meeting and to ask for the Board's suggestions as to what should be done to improve the system. The regular meeting was held at 4 p.m. and it was followed by the Annual Board meeting at 8 p.m., to which all the Municipalities were invited to send a delegate. Five dele- gates attended and the Chairman welcomed them giving his annual report which was as follows: "The new Board which took office on April Ist, I975 have just completed their first year of a two year term. The seven member Board have had a busy year, meetings have be- en held every month alternatively in each Home when possible. I would like to congra- tulate the members for their interest and participation. It has made the work of Chair -man of the Board a pleasure. Both Homes have had improvements made dur- ing the year. At Pinewood Court the exten- sion to the dining room and patio have been completed and the residents are enjoying this much needed space. Three of the four bedroom rooms have been converted to six double rooms with washing facilities included. This had made a major improvement and is a credit to the maintenance staff that have done this work. continued page 3 ....eeeean
