Bishop, commended the stu- dents on their interest and spirit in taking part, the contribution to their schools and the encouragement it offered to other students Regardless of the results, Mr. Bishop felt it takes a certain courage after much study of one's subject to actually speak in public. The judges were Russell Nicol of Manitou- wadge, Father B.A. Campbell of Marathon and Harold Shack of Holy Angels School, Schreiber. Warren Morrill of the Schreiber Staff was timekeeper. The trophy for the school winning the most points was won by Lake Superior, presented by Ross Mitchell on behalf of Reeve Bill Springer of Marathon. There were six entrants in the junior class and four in the intermediate. ? ' Russell Nicol announced the judges decision warmly congratulating the contestants for their deportment and time obviously spent on preparing their speeches. Coffee and doughnuts were enjoyed by the audience during the intermission and following the program the contestants were given a spe- cial lunch. COUNCIL QUOTES The Terrace Bay Council meeting was held on January 28 in the Council Chambers. The meeting opened with the minutes of previous meetings being read and adopted. Correspondence included: A letter was re- ceived from Tony Caranci requesting to pur- chase part of the town easement between Lots 274 and 275. This request was refused because access was required to Municipal service on Kenogami . . The Council was notified of an over payment of heating costs for the District Homes for the Aged. This was refunded to the Township. A request was received from Mark R. Long, Optometrist for space for his office. He will be notified that no space is available at pre- sent. ; : A letter was received from M.T.C. regarding the Municipal Airport. This is to be forward- ed to the Aviation Branch in Toronto regarding Provincial grants. E A letter from the Ministry of Environment recommended a water sampling programme be taken weekly from various locations in the Township of Terrace Bay. It was agreed that when implemented, people will be contacted about samples of water being taken from their homes. A letter of thanks was received from the residents of Birchwood Terrace Senior Citizens em ---- Home for the tapes and tapedeck that was giv- en by the Township of Terrace Bay. Applications regarding the vacancy on the Library Board were viewed. Ken McLeod was appointed. : A letter was received from Jack Stokes regarding the Schreiber curve on Highway #17. He reported that Ministry of Transportation and Communications would be monitoring the alterations suggested to the East to the curve. R.T. Yates of Schreiber wrote requesting an increase of payment of garbage collection for trailers in Terrace Heights sub division. A resolution was passed for an increase of $45.00 per month, to be reviewed monthly, having consideration for the increase in the number of trailers expected on the site. A letter was received from the District 'Health Unit regarding an appointment to the Board. Reeve Harold McParland will continue for 1976. / A request to purchase lot #579 was receiv- ed from Ron Falzetta of Terrace Bay. A resol- ution was passed authorizing the sale to him. A letter was received from the Red Dog Inn regarding the Municipal Service easement.
