Public Library Terrace Bay, Ont. a Vol. I9 No. 5 FEBRUARY 4, I976 20¢ PER COPY INAUGURAL MEETING HELD The North of Syperior District Rowai Cath- olic Separate School Board held their Inaugur- al Meeting on Saturday, January I7, I976 at St. Martin School, Terrace Bay at I0:00 A.M. In a brief opening address, Mr. Gillen (Administration) welcomed Mr. Asseff and Mr. McCabe and thanked them for attending the meeting as representatives of 0.S.S.T.A. and the Lakehead District R.C.S.S. Board respec- tively. For the coming year Mr. Gillen felt that emphasis should be placed on policy for- mation and the forming of a cohesive unit. Items of importance at the present time also are the two school building projects, one in Manitouwadge and one in Red Rock. Mr. Gillen mentioned also that Nakina could be faced with a population growth within the next few years. "For the Position of Chat bans Y. Beaupar- lant nominated J. Bunkis. There being no further nominations, Mr. Bunkis was declared elected as Chairman of the 'Board by acclama- tion. For the position of Vice-Chairman, R. Mc- Bride nominated Y. Beauparlant. There being no further nominations, Mr. Beauparlant was declared elected as Vice-Chairman by acclama- tion. . At this point the chair was turned over to Mr. Bunkis and election of committee chairmen took place. For the position of Chairman of the Finance and Personnel Committee, A. Pristanski nomin- ated F. Meagher. There being no further nom- inations, Mr. Meagher was acclaimed as Chair- man of this committee. The meeting adjourned at this point to all- ow for the striking of committees. Rathleen Pettapiece of Manitouwadge won the Intermediate Trophy and Geoffrey Gorham of Terrace Bay won the Junior Trophy in the first Annual Oral Competition in the Lake Superior Public Schools, comprising Manitou- wadge, Terrace Bay, Marathon and Schreiber. Kathleen's subject was "A Policewoman's Duties" and Geoffrey chose "The Benefits in + Converting to the Metric System". - The event was held in the Schreiber Public School with Don Davey, vice principal, pre- siding.
