At the January meeting of the Schreiber Women's 'Institute, Mrs. Ann Todesco, president welcomed the heads of the church groups in town. They were, Mrs. Lorette McParland, of the Catholic Women's League} Mrs. Beth Macadam of the United Church Women; Mrs. Hazel Bailey cf the Anglican Church Women; and Mrs. Bonnie Dye of Grace Baptist Church. Also welcomed was Mrs. Eva Bailey, of Thunder Bay, a former long time member of the Schreiber Branch. The roll call was answered with a display of keepsakes and relating how the article came to be a prized family posession; several dish- es and other articles having been in a family for a hundred years. Motto for the meeting was "Live One Day at a Time" Among current events discussed were the coming postage increase, recent hockey games, and the great honour recently bestowed by the Queen on Mr. Diefenbaker. Regarding the ward system in elections it was agreed to write Jack Stokes, MLA, declaring this association's satisfaction in the present electoral bound- aries. Mrs. Winnie Clemens read minutes and corr- espondence which included cards from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Winters .in Florida and Mrs. P. Boyko, Provincial Board Director; brochures from Consumer and Corporate Affairs, dealing with many timely household topics for all ages. A directive from the F.W.I.O. regarding the Foster Parents Plan was held over for discuss- ion at the February meeting. } with each of the guests briefly expressing 'day gifts donated by Beatrice McCuaig, Inez Mrs. Annie Niemi reported sending cards for various occasions and Mrs. Agnes Bryson, Life Member, wrote: thanking the members for her cards and flowers, hoping her friends would continue to call on her in Birchwood Terrace Home in Terrace Bay. Life Membership certificates were 'present- ed to Mrs. Winnie Campbell by Mrs. Mildred Smith and to Mrs. Eunice Bolan by Mrs. Annie Niemi. ] A meeting will be held in Blake Memorial ¥ City Hall on March 20 regarding violence on i television and any person or group wishing to protest must send a brief to Mrs. P. Boyko. | A listing for the annual Schreiber Kinette calendar was ordered. Members wishing to have Pen Friends in for- eign countries should send their names to the secretary. After the meeting members and guests enjoy- ed a program of readings, poems and contests. Mrs. Eunice Bolan won the draw prize. A pot luck supper followed the exchange of gifts, - ria TENE their pleasure in attending the meeting. CHIMO CLUB George Birch presided for the January meet- ing of the Chimp Senior Citizens Club, welcom- ing Mrs. Eva Bailey, member of the Thunder Bay Si Club and former resident of Schreiber. ® The minutes of the December meeting, treas- urers report and New Horizons grant report were adopted as read by Mrs. Beatrice McCuaig, Mrs. Helen Wallace and Cyril Sparkes. Mrs. Bern Jacomb reported sending a card "to Frank Tuomi, a member who's ill in hospital. Following the meeting, a social evening was enjoyed with cards and a draw for birth- McCuaig, Cyril Sparkss, Charlie Boon and Olive Cash. Much laughter occurred when, in the draw, Eva Haughn won three gifts and Esther Birch two.
