FINANCIAL AID FOR STUDENTS The Ontario Government recently announced two new aid programs for students attending post-secondary institutions in the Province. Confederation College students in full time post-secondary programs this year may qualify for any one of the following programs: Ontario Student Assistance Program OSAP provides assistance to full-time, post- secondary Students who are unable to pay the full cost of their education and related expen -ses. About 50% of the students at Confedera- tion College have received financial aid from the program in previous years. Plan: The Ontario Student Loans Plan will benefit people such as part-time students, students taking certain upgrading programs and studen- ts who are ineligible for Canada Student Loans or Ontario Student Assistance because the lengthy or entry requirements of their programs do not meet federal regulations. The program will provide loans of up to $1,400 over a normal academic year, to a max- imum of $4,000. The terms and conditions of the loans are to be similar to those of the Canada Student Loans Plan, which are interest free until six months after the conclusion of studies at which time repayment is required. Ontario Special Bursary Program: The new Ontario Special Bursary Program will aid people in serious financial need who may be able to improve their financial situation by taking one or more post-secondary courses. Applicants to the program must be receiv- ing social assistance, be unemployed or have a low family income. : People eligible for assistance will re- ceive funds to cover the cost of their tuit- ion, other compulsory fees, books and equip- ment. They may also receive an additional allowance of up to $I25 per term to help meet exceptional costs such as baby-sitting, day care or unusual transportation expenses. For more information on any of the above programs please contact the Student Awards Officer, Student Affairs Division, Confeder- ation College, P.O. Box 398, Thunder Bay, Ontario or call (807) 577-5751 Ext. I29.
