The guest speaker for the main theme was Inspec tor Max Cooper from the Fire Investigation Branch of the Ontario Fire Marshal's office. Mr. Cooper's talk was based on arson and arson detection. The message was a direct challenge to all Fire Chiefs to be careful in the investigation of causes of fire and if suspicion was aroused that he, (Mr. Cooper) should be called right away, a guard should be placed on the premises so no-one could destroy the evidence. Mr. Cooper went on to say that in the last four -years in Northwestern Ontario the Investigation Branch of The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office have had from 54% to 78% success in the convictions of persons charged with-arson offences. Captain Jack Van Brunt of The Thunder Bay Fire Department talked on Overhaul In The Fire Service. He dealt with the problems, rekindling, arson, what to look for and method of attack. Mr. Van Brunt's message was well received by all present. Two films were shown "You & Yours" based on fire prevention in the home and 'Date with Disaster" a planning film on major disasters in the Los Angeles Basin.
