The schedule for the weekend is as follows: Saturday, August 24th - Swim Meet Sunday, August 25th - Diving,Water Polo, Synchronized swimming. Terrace Bay will be trying to defend the Meuller trophy, which is representative of the North Shore Swim Meet. We will also be compet- ing in the Water Polo and Synchronized swimming competition. Parents, if you have a chance to got to Red Rock on the weekend of August 24th and 25th, try to attend and support our local swimmers. REPRESENTATIVE MINOR FASTBALL: At present, one boys' team and one girls' team are practising for some inter-community ball. Our thanks to Chick Thompson for arrang- ing the formation of a boys' team. At the time of this write-up, arrangements were being made for exhibition games with Marathon. PLAYGROUND: A corn roast, which seemed doomed to failure right from the start turned out to be quite successful and was held last Thursday night at Jackfish Lake for the I0-I4 year olds. Thanks to Tony Costa who managed to get us a bag of corn, to the weather which co-operated in the end, and to Andy Kostiuk who managed to save the day by getting the fire going, everyone en- ~ joyed a swim and lots of corn cooked over the open fire. Friday afternoon, the 5 & 6 year olds had an Unbirthday party to celebrate the fact that no- body had a birthday that day. After playing games and exchanging presents, the kids polish- ed off a big lunch of sandwiches, cookies and an Unbirthday Cake with Paul Colby-Hara proving that not only does he play a mean game of musi- cal chairs, but he also seems to have a big he= hole for a stomach. Laura Lalonde was the win- ner of the "pin the tail on the cat" contest (none of-the staff could draw a donkey). That night the 7-9 year olds went down to the mouth of the river for a weiner roast and to cook up the rest of the corn left over from the night before. This time the staff had no trouble lighting the fire, and everyone.had a good time. : . That same night, the I0O-I2 year old boys headed to White Sand Lake to try their hand at canoeing, but unfortunately, were unable to, but had just as good a time swimming instead. SUMMER PLAYGROUND PRESENTATION: There is now less than two weeks of our programme left, and as one of our wind-ups we are planning a Variety Show, starring the play -ground children. This will be held next Thursday, August 22nd. On past summers, these shows have been well attended and have been well worth the effort to see. Further details will be announced in next week's News. SWIM-A-THON HUGE SUCCESS: The swim-a-thon held last Wedndsday proved to be a great success, with the majority of swimmers completing the total 75 lengths. Thanks to all the parents who gave of their time to work at it. MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH BEGINNERS POOL: Our apologies to the general public for the inconvenience of not being able to use the Beginners pool. - Our main problem connected with the pool since June has been a daily loss of water causing the main pump to shut off automatically. The water in the Beginners Po- ol has never been warm enough to swim in due to the amount of continued page 8 ...... Your haul. Our truck. Whatever you've got to haul, Tilden can rent you the truck.
