We are con- stantly reminded by the federal and provincial governments of 'the importance of fitness and competitive sport. Most communities spend well over $3,000 for their summer playground program and receive only $I,500 in financial assistance. They receive only 25% to a maximum of $I,000 for maintenance and operation of an arena. Cost of utilities, maintenance, materials, equipment and wages escalate each year yet the grant structure under the Communities Centres Act has remained constant for many years.
