Public Hearings = continued Shortages of basic commodities and materials in conjunction with competitive demand for them by other sectors of the economy will cause in- creasingly higher prices in the major mechani- cal equipment area, Hydro predicted. More than 50 Hydro witnesses are expected to appear before the Energy Board for examination during the next 8-I0 weeks as the Board re- views Hydro's operations and the need for a rate increase in I975. : Twenty-two companies, associations, utilit- ies and individuals have formally filed their intent to intervene in the hearings. Hydro witnesses will be subject to cross--examination by the Energy Board's counsel and each of the intervenors .of their legal counsel. Earlier this year, Hydro appeared before the Board to present its proposed I974-82 system expansion program which has been estimated to cost more than $I6-~billion. During the spring, in a second phase of public hearings, Hydro ex- plained its financial policies and objectives. More than 7500 pages of transcripts were pro- duced in the hearings and almost 400 supplemen- tary exhibits were filed with the Board. STORK CLUB: and Mrs. L. NORTH SHORE YOUTH SUMMER CAMP To appreciate the north in which we live, we must use it to the utmost. This is the realization of the Recreation Department of the four North Shore Communities - Schreiber, Terrace Bay, Manitouwadge and Marathon, and to this end a youth summer camp will begin this August. In this initial year the camp will cater to boys aged I0 - I4. It will be located at Canoe Lake, sometimes called Noslo Lake, 9 miles east of Terrace Bay. It will be a live- in camp, where the boys will be supervised by two senior student counselors. Each camp sess- ion of five days duration, Monday through Fri- day, will have IO young campers in attendance. The boys will be instructed in the use of camp -ing equipment, organization of back packing, preparation of meals, a course of emergency first aid, identification of edible wild plan- ts and their preparation as emergency foods. Proper use of canoes and water safety will be emphasized before a two day canoe trip winds up the weeks' events. Map reading and compass work will give the boys a greater feeling of security for outdoor living. Maturity, co-operation, self-reliance and appreciation of our Natural Environment are the goals of the programme. Each community will have the opportunity to send equal numbers of boys to the Camp. continued page 3 ...... ] :
