Vol. I7 No. I8 May 8, I974 20¢ Per Copy CBQ TO SERVE NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO Thirteen communities in Northwestern Ontario who receive CBC radio service via a Low-Power- Relay-Transmitter system will experience a change in programming beginning, Monday, May 6th. On that date, nine hours of daily pro- gramming which now originates in Toronto will be fed from CBQ in Thunder Bay. The transmitt- ers affected are at Red Rock, Terrace Bay, Manitouwadge, Beardmore, Nakina, Schreiber, Hornepayne, Geraldton, Long Lac, Marathon, Armstrong and White River. puring January and early February, public meetings were held in each location to discuss local radio needs. As a result of these meet- ings CBQ has developed programming plans to serve the smaller communities in Northwestern Ontario. Two morning shows, one from Thunder Bay and cone for the region will be broadcast simultan- eously from CBQ's studios at 2I3 Miles Street in Thunder Bay. The regional morning show will replace Gordon Jones and "On Your Way", from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and will be hosted by Terry Morris a life-time resident of Northwestern Ontario, who has spent the last seven years working in private radio in Thunder Bay, primarily in the area of sales. Terry is 38, married and has 'three children. He is familiar with North- western Ontario, having travelled the area during his years as a salesman. It was apparent at the meetings, that list- eners wanted to continue to hear the Wednesday morning Consumer Phone-In Program from Toronto, and the Friday morning Gardening Show. With the co-operation of the Northern Ontario Net- work this has been arranged. 5 page 2 ...
