PAGE I2 TERRACE BAY NEWS MAY 8, 1974 BIBLE SOCIETY MEETING IN TERRACE BAY Rev. Ralph Magee of the Canadian Bible Soci- ety held a meeting recently in the Hall of the Community Church. The Joy and Hosanna Singers, directed by Mrs. McKague presented a short concert. Mr. Magee introduced the work the Bible Society is doing in a world wide effort to bring the Bible to all people. The symbol of the Bible Society is "The Seed of the Word" and if the seed is going to speak, it must be in the language they can understand. . In Canada alone, the Bible has been transla- ted into 78 languages. 80% of the Scriptures published are sent out at a loss to the Bible Society, which is supported by the interested public. Over half the world is very poor - two out of three people to whom the Bible Soci- ety reaches out exist on $50. to $I50. a year. Every 5 days a million new adult readers in 200 major languages are introduced to the Scriptures. Future plans are to spend 60-70 million dollars in the next IO years to teach others to read. It costs the Bible Society one dollar to print one book of the Scriptures, which is sold to a person in East Africa for IS8¢. 3,000 tranlaters work for the Bible Society, in 800 languages. Mr. Magee showed a very interesting film "A New Spring in Coppermine". Tea and cookies were served by the committee Mr. McKague thanked Mr. Magee for his excellent presentation.
