PAGE 12 TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY 9, 1974 CURLING This past week-end saw the Ladies' North- western Zone Playoffs between teams from Schreiber, Marathon, Manitouwadge and Terrace Bay. Our Terrace Bay team of Ollie Chapman, Skip; Norma Crockford, Third; Connie Cvitko- vich, Second and Jeannette Gunter, Lead; came out victorious after the single round robin p play. Congratulations girls and good luck when you advance to the District Playoff at the Thunder Bay Curladrome on January I7th. LIBRARY NEWS The Library requests that all over due books from past year be returned at no cost to patron. Since the library is on a six (6) months trial basis of no fines, this would be an appropriate time to return books long over due. New books shall be loaned out on a two weeks basis - no renewals. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEETING The Terrace Bay Chamber of Commerce met on January 3rd with eight members present. A notice board will be installed in the win -dow of the Credit Union office in the near future for the use of the public. More infor- mation will be available on this when the board is made. Memberships will be going forward within the next few weeks to members and prospective members. \ Mrs. E. Connors again agreed to look .after arrangements to honour Terrace Bay's First Baby of I974 and his or her parents. A new slate of officers was presented by the nominating committee of J. Hale and D. Rafalant. Officers for 1974 will be as foll- ows: President - R. Buckley, Vice-President - R. Bray, Directors - Mrs. E. Connors, M. Moore J. Mikus, D. Beno, R. Sinotte, W.E. Cavanaugh, J. Hale and J. Whetter. The annual meeting is scheduled for Thurs- day, January 24th. All members and prospec- tive members are urged to attend. CANCER SOCIETY ELECTS EXECUTIVE The Terrace Bay Branch of the Cancer Societ- y met at the home of Mrs. Mary Hale on Friday, January 4, I974. The treasurer's report showed that the res- idents of Terrace Bay had been very generous and are to be thanked and congratulated for their assistance both during the campaign and through the purchase of In Memoriam cards. In Memoriam cards are available from Mrs. Lil Harris and Mrs. Mary Hale. The 1974 executive will be: Chairman - Mrs. V. Rapke, Vice Chairman - Mrs. M. Bray, Secre- tary - Mrs. I. Steen; Treasurer - Mrs. M. Hale; Service to Patients - Mrs. G. Heenan and Mrs. H. Brooks, Campaign Chairman - Mrs. L. Harris; Education and Publicity - Mrs. N. Wills. G: MATYS APPOINTED SUPERINTENDENT Effective January Ist, 1974; Mr. George J. Matys, B.Sc., M.A., has been appointed as Superintendent of, Separate Schools and Secre- tary of the Board for five Northwestern Ontar- io school boards - the Nipigon-Red Rock R.C. S.S. Board, Geraldton R.C.S.S. Board, Nakina R.C.S.S. Board, Schreiber-Terrace Bay R.C.S.S. Board, Manitouwadge R.C.S.S. Board. This is a first in Ontario and is a unique arrangement whereby five different and indepen- dent school boards share the same Chief Execu- tive Officer and Superintendent.
