PAGE 1I2 TERRACE BAY NEWS AUGUST 9, I973 HEALTH MINISTER URGES PARENTS TO HAVE THEIR CHILDREN IMMUNIZED Health Minister Dr. Richard T. Potter urges Ontario parents to be sure their children are adequately immunized before they go to school in the fall. A Ministry study, in 37 of Ontario's 43 health units, revealed that one in every five children entering school in September I972 had less than adequate immunication against prevent- able diseases. Of the 128,884 children in the study, 99,881 were kindergarten children, rep- resenting 79 per cent of all children at that school level in the province. About 75 per cent of those studied had been immunized against diphtheria, pertussis (whoop- ing cough), tetanus and polio. Smallpox vacc- ine had been given to 65.5 per cent of the children. Only 58 per cent -- in some areas, less than 30 per cent -- of the pre-schoolers had been vaccinated against measles. Less than 20 per cent of the children studied had received rubel- la (German measles) vaccine. "With this rate of immunication, outbreaks of measles are in- evitable," Dr. Potter said. > ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Chicoine of Schreiber are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter Gisele to Mr. M.J. Hoggart of London Ontario. The wedding will take place on Saturday, September Ist, I973 in Holy Angels Church. Reception to be held in the Moose Hall, Terrace Bay.
