CHILD CARE AWARDS PRESENTED TO GUIDES May first was an exciting night for the Terrace Bay Girl Guides, when after two months of taking the St. John's Child Care Course, Girl Guide Child Care Badges and St. John's Certificates were presented. Captain, Pam Jones opened with a few words of welcome, after which colours were presented and O Canada was sung. Special guests were District Commissioner Connie Cvitkovich, Blue Badge Secretary, Shir- ley Caron, Mrs. Jan McEwen, R.N., District Health Nurse and Instructor for the course. Mrs. Helen Jartus, Corps Staff Officer of St. John's Ambulance, Schreiber, presented certificates to thirteen guides who had succes- sfully passed the course. These were Teresa Aylward, Lois Caron, Carla Crockford, Melody Fisher, Diane Jones, Natalie Kostiuk, Dawn McBride, Lori McBride, Judith Moher, Patricia Paukstys, Janice Pytyck, Deborah Seidel and CanlIDB help you! Following this, Melcdy Fisher presented Mrs. McEwen with a thank you gift, for taking time out from a very busy schedule, to teach thé course. Captain Jones presented Mrs. Jartus with a farewell gift of a Guide cup and saucer on be- half of the Guide movement in Terrace -Bay. She thanked Mrs. Jartus for her never failing interest and diligent work in First Aid, Child Care and Home Nursing. Mrs. Jartus thanked the assembly and gave a short talk on the aims of St. John's and said she hoped the Guides would retain their inter- est and useful knowledge for the future. Mrs. Jartus is leaving this area to make her home in the Okanagan Valley. Captain Jones is ably assisted by Lieuten- ants Lois McRae and Bibianne Robitaille.
