Hospital Meeting -- cont'd .....cece.. Health. Contrary to rumours the Board does not feel that a solution to our problem is a Community Health Centre here, with Marathon and/or Nipigon serving as the hospital and we have tried to be firm on this in our meet- ings with the Department. We are not against the inclusion of some of the Community Health Care Centre concepts with our need for beds, etc at the McCausland Hospital. Another problem faced the board when the new Birchwood Terrace Home for the Aged was established - the hospital having depended on the former Motor Hotel for both hot meals and heat. However we are assured of a contin- ued supply of meals and it is hopeful to work out an arrangement on the heating. Mr. Anderson thanked the board for their support and urged those at the meeting to con- sider carefully if they are nominated for a position on the board - a challenging and in- teresting task, but, a great contribution to their community's welfare. Victor A. Mazzone, Administrator, in his report noted the following points of interest in the hospital year: registered nursing ass- istants have been employed to assist in nur- sing care, an action recommended by the nur- sing consultant of the Ministry of Health; the employment of a ward clerk typist to pro- vide clerical assistance to the Director of Nursing in her many areas of responsibility and also to assist in the general administra- tion in purchasing, receiving and inventory control; an increase in patient days from last year. Mr. Mazzone read a list of donations from individuals and organizations to the hospital and particularly thanked the auxiliary for its steady and increasing support. The annual report of the medical staff, submitted by A.B. Adey, M.D. was read by Mr. Mazzone - The appointment of Dr. J.V. Riches and Dr. D. Coulson of Thunder Bay to serve on the Credentials Committee with one member of the active hospital staff and a meeting was held in January. In the meantime applications had been re- ceived from the three members of the Medical Staff and one application for dental privil- eges - these were granted essentially as re- quested and approved by the Board.
