Actually, it's prob- ably a good thing. I can usually write two columns in advance and they'll be in the Terrace Bay New's post office box three or four days before publication. What I try to do, in most cases, is write about off colour stuff that you may not have read anywhere else, and, when I can, discuss whatever sport is in the limelight at the time of writing. I hope, so far, I've been able to do that. Perhaps, though, you'll be disappointed with this column, because it's about the Stan- ley Cup playoffs and by the time you pick up the paper, the playoffs will be under way. My biggest handicap, at a time like this, is having to write the column a few days be- fore the regular season is over and wanting to talk about what's to be expected in the playoffs. Now if the eight playoff positions had been decided a week or more ago, I could really rave on about stuff. But, even though, I'm writing this just three days before the end of the NHL schedule, only four of the eight positions are assured. Montreal, I know, has clinched the east di- vision title. Chicago has repeated as west division champs. By the way, in case you've forgotten, Montreal wins the Prince of Wales Trophy for finishing first in the east and Chicago takes the Clarence Campbell Bowl for winning out in the west. I also know that Boston will finish second and New York third in the east. But that's all I know, for sure, except that Phil Esposi- to will have captured his third straight scor- ing title by the time you read this. cont'd ..
