They also presented penny auction prizes. Motto for the meeting was "Let all we do be done with love and kindness." Mrs. Joe Campbell, who presided, in the absence of Mrs. Todesco, thanked those who contributed and worked at the recent successful bake sale, re- marking on the special cake made by Mrs. Peter Dzioba. Members said they are enjoying the Women's Institute Story Book which is still being circu- lated and will later be presented to the public library. It was decided to hold the penny auction in May, when there will be a door prize, donated by Mrs. Campbell, and a hamper of groceries as the draw prize. Information was received from the Home Economist, Barbara Weese, re- garding Summary Night for Creative Stitchery projects, on April I7 in the Exhibition Auditorium, Thunder Bay. Guest speaker then will be Miss Bennett of Toronto, who will show slides, foll- owed by an exhibition of sewing, and a social hour. Circulars were received from F.W.I. 0. about the A.C.W.W. convention in Australia in I947, and from the Ontario president Mrs. Nobbitt describing "Twinning" with Women's Institutes in the North. The Rally Committee sent word the Rally will be held October I8th in Thunder Bay. Entries in the wall hang- ing must be forwarded to Mrs. Enders in Kakabecka Falls by October 5th. Mrs. Annie Niemi, convener of Family and Consumer Affairs, read an article on labelling of canned foods, stating the Consumers' Association is urging federal officials to update labelling regulations so the right amount of' con- tents of cans are so stated on labels. In her report of the District Dir- ectors' meeting in Thunder Bay, Mrs. Wesley Clemens gave an outline of fu- ture events and activities of Women's Institutes in the district. The annual (district) meeting of the North District Women's Institute will be held in Murillo on May I7th. And the area convention, to be hosted by the North Division, will take place in the Prince Arthur Hotel, Thunder Bay, September I8-I9. An invitation to all members was re- ceived to attend the Northern Women's Conference on April 6,7,8, in Confed- eration College when there will be workshops on Welfare, Abortion, Single Women Working Women and other topics of interest to women. One may attend one or more of the workshops. A workshop on the Metric System is planned for the coming fall in Thunder Bay, by Mrs. R. Johnson, Provincial Board Representative. Mrs. Chris Morris read an interest- ing letter from a pen pal in Australia describing her daily life and work on a sheep and cattle farm. The minutes and treasurer's report were adopted as read by Mrs. Clemens. Mr. Eunice Bolan won the draw prize, and following some penny auction, lunch was served, the table gay with St. Patrick symbols. MINNIE MCCUAIG BONSPIEL Sixteen rinks entered the Minnie McCuaig bonspiel in Schreiber and in addition to relations and other local curlers the event was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCuaig, Capreol, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Morgan (Audrey McCuaig) Manitouwadge, Mr. and Mrs. Tom McCuaig and Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCuaig, Thunder Bay. Winning the first event was Frank Walker's rink-K. Fraswer, B. Gellert, B. Sarrinen. Winning second event - Dr. Richardson, M. Durham, W. Durham, R. Richardson-from Marathon. Winning third event-F. McCuaig,B. McCuaig, M. Morgan,A. Morgan. A smorgasbord supper and dance highlighted the event.
