PAGE 8 TERRACE BAY NEWS FEBRUARY 2I, I973 Board Meeting - cont'd '...... that experiences the surplus, since in terms of our present contract teachers are hired to teach for the Board and not in a particular school. The Board and officials must also look at the need for economy under the ceilings and justify the possible need for an incre- ase in pupil-teacher ratio. In the initial stages the surplus teachers will be absorbed through the process of natural attrition, which is to say the positions of teachers who resign or retire from the Board will be filled by those teachers whose position would otherwise be surplus. As each situation is unique, the Principal who is declaring a surplus, must in essence establish his own prior ities to achieve the most benefit for the particular school at the particular time. The Principal will however in the course of his deliberations consid- er the following criteria: Adaptabil- ity and versatility of the teacher. Professional performance and attitude. Qualifications. : Tenure with the Board. Total experience.
