FEBRUARY 2I, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 7 BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING One admendment was added to the No. I/73 meeting minutes at the Lake Superior Board of Education meeting held February IOth at the Schreiber Campus. Mrs. M. Dettbarn's name has been added to the Budget Committee. The Disbursements in the amount of $230,040.93 for the period ending January 3I, I973 were approved. The Minister of Treasury, Economics and Intergovernmental Affairs has been requested to place the Board under Tax Registration Procedure, under the Department of Municipal Affairs Act. The resignation of Miss Gwendoline F. Hadley was accepted from the staff of the Schreiber Public School, effec- tive June 29, I973, upon her retire- ment from the teaching profession, after many years of faithful service in the community. The resignation of Mrs. Margaret A. Graham from the staff of the Mara- thon Public School, effective June 29, I973, upon her retirement from the teaching profession, after many years of faithful service in the community was also accepted with regret. The Schreiber Public School and the Terrace Bay Public School will be reconstituted as one Public School con sisting of two campuses, effective September I, I973 and with one Princi- pal with duties to commence September i, 1973. The position of Supervising Prin- cipal of Elementary Schools will be eliminated effective June, I973. The Director of Education is to formulate energetic plans for develop- ment of curriculum from K to .I3 with- in the division. The Fidelity Bond for the three signing authorities will be increased from $7,500.00 each to $15,000.00 each effective March 3I, 1973. The minutes of Meeting No. 3I of the Trainable Retarded Children's Advisory Committee were acknowledged with the correction showing Mr. A. Allen as Trustee. The reimbursement for Board, Lodg- ing and Weekly Transportation for the calendar year I973 will now be estab- lished at $5.00 per day for students travelling in excess of I50 miles round trip, $4.25 per day for students travelling I50 miles or less round trip and $4.50 per day for Trainable Retard- ed students. Also, that semi-monthly transportation being provided for Mah- itouwadge students enrolled at Lake Superior High School, Terrace Bay Campus be discontinued immediately. The Board approved the policy state- ment concerning surplus staff, as re- commended and presented by the Committee on Surplus Staff under Item C I of the agenda, and that it be embodied in and become part of the existing Board policy concerning surplus staff. Additional Information re Policy on Surplus Staff: It is to be assumed throughout that the specific surplus of teachers is caused by declining enrolment and/or termination of a particular selective program of instruction. Furthermore, it is assumed that all the teachers in the employ of the Board are competent and qualified according to the Minis- try's regulations.
