PAGE 4 TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 8, 1972 REMEMBRANCE DAY What does it mean to our young people? (By David Harriman, C.B.C.) Today in some classes, or in assembly, or in the office, or at the plant, someone asked you to stand up and bow your head. And for two minutes you were forced to be silent, and to remember. And for most of you, those two minutes seemed to stretch in- to an eternity. What did you think about during those two strange, silent minutes? Did you thank God that war to you is a B-movie, a television series, or a snatch of sentimentality in a magazine? Or did you silently curse the senseless powers that robbed you of a father, a brother, a friend? Two terrible, interminable minutes. Not nearly enough time to picture the kind of world we'd be living in if stupidity and greed hadn't stripped humanity of twenty million bewildered, brave people, twice in one lifetime, and robbed mankind of more money than it would take to find a cure for every known . disease. Two exasperating, exhausting minutes in which to imagine the face of Europe, of Britain, of Russia, THE LAKE SUPERIOR BOARD OF EDUCATION required the following personnel: Lake Superior High School English Teacher - Specialist Certificate Required Term of Employment: Jan. 1 to June 30, 1973 Please apply to: E.E. Two frightening, fatal minutes, in which to ponder the possibility that madness might once again take root in the minds of the mighty. Two barbarous minutes. Not nearly enough time for sixty thousand Japanese civilians to escape the horror that was Hiroshima, six million Jews the fires of Auschwitz, Treblinka, Dachau. Two desperate minutes for you to consider what YOU might do to wipe hatred and greed and stupidity and war off the face of the earth. Two awful, awesome minutes, in which to reflect that when the next war ends, no one will stand silently in remem= brance of you. Minor Hockey Cont'd Jerry Dupas.
