Vol. 15 No. 44 November 1, 1972 15¢ Per Copy "SATELLITE" TASK FORCE In an effort to seek grass roots opinion about pro- grams in our high schools, the northwestern regional office of the Ministry of Education has appointed a "satellite" task force to solicit the views of teachers, students, parents and, in fact, any interested group or individual. The task force, comprising staff consultants Bill Morgan, Bill Colborne, and Maurice Tremblay, of the Thunder Bay office, will conduct public meetings throughout the region upon request, and will compile samples of opinion through selected schools. It is hoped that open forums for trustees, students and parents may be convened to provide a broader parti- cipation in the project across the community. Similar activities will soon be under way in all other regions of the province to gather expressions of concern on the questions of secondary schooling, diploma requirements, and related policy prior to the introduction of changes to circular H.S, 1, the offi- cial Ministry document on high school education. Ontario secondary schools are presently operating in the first required year of the "credit system", an approach to education which encourages individual progress and broad freedom in course selection. In order to allow time for evaluation of the new plans, no significant revisions will likely come into effect until the 1974-75 school year. Wm. M. Cavanaugh and all councillors present. The minutes of the last council meeting were ap- proved. A Thank You note was received from the Girl Guides for the assistance of Police Chief, Dave Bar- nett, in showing a recent film on drugs. The L.A. to Guides and Brownies have requested permission to hold an All Sorts Blitz in town and per- mission was granted. Permission was also granted to the Boy Scouts to hold their annual Christmas Card Sale. A letter was received from Mill Manager Mr. G. Puttock re the recent proposals of the renewal of the Recreation Centre lease. Mr. Puttock advised coun- cil that he is willing to make available any informa- tion and technical assistance they have in order to evaluate the heating system which will be required for the Recreation Centre. Council received notice of a hearing of the Will of the late Charles H. Sage. A $500. fund has been left to the Terrace Bay Library Board. The interest on this fund is to be used at the Boards discretion and will be held by the Imperial Bank of Commerce. Acknowledgement of this notice will be sent with councils thanks.
