Mabel Storey celebrated her 80th birthday at a surprise party, held at the home of her daugh- ter, Mrs. W. J. Knight, 111 Laurier Ave., on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Mrs. Storey was born in York, England, on March 15'th, 1892. She enjoys good health, and her youthful appearance belies the fact that she is 80. Many of Mrs. Storey's friends and neighbours dropped by to wish her well, bringing gifts and flowers, and partaking of the birthday cake, comp- lete with candles, made and decorated by Mrs. Knight. FIGURE SKATING CARNIVAL ~The The Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club presented "Ice Frolics 72" on Friday and Saturday nights, dir- ected by Club Professional, Mr. Sanford Jones. It was well put together, moved at a fast pace, and the costumes as always were ingenious and interesting , showing a lot of hard work behind the scenes by the mothers of the skaters. The four smallest skaters, Cheryl Prill, Susan Tho- mas, Sherry Milks, and Lisa Fournier, dressed as Nurses, charmed the audience with their petiteness and unsure steps, but great determination. Carnival Capers, with some of the senior skaters was well done = These were: Nora Mikus, Linda Dej- onghe, Leslie Josus, Cathy Weberg, Norma Phillips, Cheryl Dejonghe, Debbie Opas, Julie Randa, Lori Schritt, Jackie Turner, Carolyn Vanderkam, Jenny Dorman, Sharon Bougie. The Ballet Dancers, in pretty white Ballet costumes, featured Cathy Lang, Joan Mitchell, Gwenn Melnyk, Janice Marcella, Leslie Anderson, Siobhan Anderson, Angie Stortini. The Prima Ballerina = Jackie Turner, turned in an out-standing performance as always. The Octopi, for the Deep Sea Divers section, wore fascinating costumes of green, from head to toe, with great brown tentacles. The Mermaid, Linda Dejonghe, ( continued on page 3) MARCH 23, 1972 ITI _--_----_>
