-- PAGE 12 NEWS FEBRUARY 17, 1972 TERRACE -BA Ski Club News : Winter Carnival Events combined with our regular ski club activities made for a very busy skiing weekend On Saturday morning instructors classes were held as usual followed by a Race League Slalom event. Results were as follows = Boys Red Division:~ 1st B. Megraw; 2nd = P. Prinselaar; 3rd - H. Prinselaar. Boys Blue Division - 1st-R.B. Mcbride; 2nd - R.S. Mcbride 3rd- G. Moore. Girls Red Division: = Ist = Leslie McBride; 2nd - Lori McBride; 3rd = M. Fisher. Girls Blue Division := 1st = A. Stephen; 2nd = C. Moore; 3rd - C. Yates. There are only 2 events left in the race league schedule and in all divisions there is a close fight for the leadership! On Sunday our float took 2nd place in the Winter Carnival parade. A replica of the Ski Club crest and a map of our runs were featured on the float. These have now been proudly installed as permanent fixtures at our chalet. A huge crowd was on hand Sunday evening to watch the Winter Carnival skiing events. The novelty race was won by Leslie McBride with Melody Fisher 2nd and Dan Moore 3rd. The slalom races were run on an elimentary match race basis. This was the first time our club has tried this and it proved to be interesting for everybody. First place winners were Bill Megraw, Leigh Ann McBride, Dan Moore and Ann Stephen. Trophies and ribbons for both Novelty and Slalom events were presented by the Carnival Queen Bonnie McEwen assissted by Carnival Chairman Dan Laporte . The highlight of the evening was a thrilling torch- light parade with most of the skiers in the club taking part. The run was staged in total darkness except for the light from the sparklers = one held by each skier. The evening came to a close with a weiner roast to uu music provided by the Terrace Bay Band. Scout News The Terrace Bay Boy Scouts are still collecting all good used Scout equipment for re-distribution to Fess affluent Scouts in Armstrong, Ontario. Annual Dinner Held The district association of the Ontario Provincial Police held its annual dinner in Schreiber this year, the meal served by the Anglican Church Women in their Church hall. The representatives attending inc- luded seven from Nipigon, three from Geraldton, three from Kakabeka, two from Long Lac, six from Thunder Bay, six from Marathon, and four from Schreiber. After a vote of appreciation to the retiring execut=- ive the new officers, Garnet Bownins, chairman, and Wally Kringle, secretary-treasure (both from Thunder Bay) conducted the business meeting. Corp. Davis Brown, of Thunder Bay, was elected to the board of three men, who deal with the affairs of some 17 districts in Ontario. The Association now has its headquarters in a new building in Barrie where a manager and staff are on full time duty. Following the dinner the men went on, by special invitation to spend a few hours in the Royal Canad- ian Legion, where it might be assumed, some of the lighter aspects of their duties were discussed. The Schreiber Detachment is a seven man force - under the direction of Corp. Ronald Burton. It was a sight that everyone present will long remember. Home and School Girls in the public school sewing class proudly displayed the various ensembles they had made, at the Home and School Association meeting on February 3. : Donna Gellert gave an interesting report on the activities of the Outdoor Education classes she had attended. The Arts and Crafts group had an interest- ing display of their work, and lunch for the meet- ing was served by the cooking class. Tom Quinton voiced the regret of the school in losing Mrs. Julie McKay from the staff = Mrs. McKay going with her husband to a new home in Thunder Bay. Cont'd page 13......
