OCTOBER 14, 1971 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 15 WORLD POLITICS PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS .... On October 7, the World Politics students and Fifth Year students of Schreiber Campus welcomed the three area candidates running in the forthcoming provincial election. Questions from the student body were directed at Mr. Assad, Mr. Brydges and Mr. Stokes, who represented the Liberal, Conservative and N.D.P. parties respectively, as candidates for this riding. The session was very enlightening, especially for the students who now have the privilege of voting at 18. Students directed questions to the candidates concerning the problems of pollution, school ceilings unemployment and several other topics of interest in this district. Students observing the 'heated' interchange amongst the three candidates were then able to decide for themselves which candidate would be able to serve the area most effectively. It is felt that everyone present both enjoyed and learned a great deal from this encounter. The meeting was recorded using the schools VTR equipment. : Because of the efforts of Mr. Pokorny, Producer, Paul Caccamo, Director, Cathy Stokes, camera- lady, John Souliere, Chairman and the other member of the Fourth Year World Politics class, the debate was well organized. The class was also pleased that the three busy candidates were able to take time out from their busy schedule to visit the school and speak with the students. RUN-A-THON The Schreiber Campus Athletic Council will be sponsoring a "Run-a-thon" in the near future with a view to raising funds to send two athletes to an indoor track meet this winter. It is hoped that the community will offer their support for this worth- while project. CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM The Schreiber Campus Cross-Country team took part in the Annual 10-Mile Relay Race in Thunder Bay on October?, 1971. The ten runners who qualified for this event were: Ron Chicoine, Lonnie Connelly, Bob Courtney, Victor Dukes, Kim Gellert, Corned Prinselaar, Bill Smilsky, Bill Souliere, Rick Spadoni and Mark Stokes. Other Cross-Country races to look forward to in the near future are as follows: = Wed., Oct. 20 - N.S.5.5.A.A. Championships being held at Schreiber; Sat., Oct. 23, - Age Class Champion- ships at Lakehead University; Sat., Oct. 20, - N.W.0.S.S5.A. Championships at Lakeview High School, Thunder Bay; and Sat., Nov. 6 - O.F.S. A. Championships at Woodbridge, Ont. SCHREIBER-TERRACE BAY STUDENT COUNCIL On Wednesday, October 7, 1971, the Student Council executives from both the Schreiber and Terrace Bay campuses met together in Schreiber for form a combined super council. Mr. Forgues presided at the meeting, and a new executive was formed. Dale Boutilier was elected as President, Cathy Graham as Vice-President, Linda Birch as Secretary, and Cathy Melnyk as Treasurer. Many issues were discussed at the meeting, in- cluding ideas for a school name and colours for the amalgamated school . It is hoped that through the efforts of a com- bined Student Council an interesting variety of activities will be planned for the students in order to creat an enjoyable atmosphere and to develop greater school spirit. O.S.S.T.F. DISTRICT NEWS During the past week the member schools of the Lake Superior Board of Education, namely Man- itouwadge, Marathon, and Schreiber-Terrace Bay High Schools, were called to a general fall meeting of O.S5.5.T.F. This meeting was held at 7:00 p.m., October 6, 1971, at Marathon High School which is generally accepted as being the most centrally-located campus for this division. In view of the distances teachers had to travel, and the fact that this meeting was held at the end of a teaching day, the number of teachers present at the meeting was surprisingly good.
