MARTIN'S SCHOOL GRADUATION The Grade Eight Graduation of St. Martin's School began with Mass at 5:15 in St. Martin of Tours. Graduates, parents and friends proceeded to the Church Hall, where ladies of the Catholic Women's League had prepared a sumptuous feast. Mrs. B. Pytyck was Mistress of Ceremonies. O Canada was sung and Grace said by Father Green= grass. A moments silence was observed in memory of Vincent Calder. Head table guests were Mrs. F. Helmink, chairman 'of the Schreiber-Terrace Bay Roman Catholic School Board; Mrs. G. Dashkewytch, president of the C .W. L.; Mr. B. Lapenskie, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; Mrs. H. Gusul, 2nd Vice-President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223 ; Father Greengrass; Mrs. Pytyck; Mr. Stephens; Mr. M. Anderson; Mrs. Anderson; Mr. Ed McAdam and Mrs. McAdam. Mrs. Helmink extended greetings from the School Board. Mr. Anderson introduced Mr. Stephens, who gave a delightful talk, amusing but containing words of wisdom, to both the parents and the graduates. Presentation of awards took place with these results: = The L.A. to the R.C.L. Bursary, presented by Mrs Gusul went to Terry Szpak; The Knights of Columbus Award presented by Mr. Lapenskie for General Improvement was won by Mona Caron; The St. Martin's Proficiency Award went to Richard Petrus; The C .W.L. Award for Deportment and all Round Good Student went to Cindy Waghorm and Jacques Landry. The History Award was won by Joanne Bergeron, and the Mathematics Award was won by Donna Dakin continued page 5 TERRACE BAY FIRE HALL OFFICIALLY OPENED Citizens of Terrace Bay can be proud of their . brand new Fire Hall which was officially opened on July Ist. On behalf of the Council, Roy Bray made a short opening address and presented the official Key to Fire Chief Vic Thorpe. The Fire Chief then called on Mr. Dave Desrosiers, who, with the aid of a large wooden block and a comparitively sharp Fire Axe, officially cut the ribbon, whereby Automen opened the large fire door. Reeve Cavanaugh then said a few words praising Dave Desrosier for his efforts while serving on Council in attaining this new Hall. Vic Thorpe, Ed Stachiw and all the members of the Fire Department are to be congratulated in the effort that has been put forth in volunteer labour in completing this well equipped and well organized Department. Equipment was laid out for inspection and know- ledgeable information was given by the various mem- bers of the Department. Coffee, doughnuts and pop was served. CHEZ MARGUERITE OPENS IN TERRACE BAY Chez Marguerite, Terrace Bay's newest Beauty Salon, was officially opened on Saturday morning, June 26, at 10 a.m. Reeve W.E. Cavanough had the honour of cutting the ribbon. Margaret Ann Hardy is no stranger to Terrace Bay and her salon is a welcome addition to our town.
