JULY 14, 1971 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 13 PUBLIC SCHOOL GRADUATION Following the processional , at the Schreiber Public School graduation exercise, Rev. R.L. Dye led in repeating the Lord's Prayer. Corned Prinselaar was M.C . for the program. Michael Roen, the valdecitorian, in an excellently delivered address, spoke of leaving of their first school, the parting with old friends, and the making of new ones, saying as one door closes another opens To the delight of classmates and teachers he recalled several pranks and the manner in which they were dealt with. He paid tribute to both parents and teachers whose united effort had succeeded in bring- ing this class to graduation. Tom Quinton, vice-principal, described the school pins now to be presented by Mrs. Gerald Fischer, president of the Home and School Associa- tion. ' G.R. Saumur, principal, presented awards to students with an overall percentage of 75% = Brenda Yates and Catherine Patterson. Mrs. John Morris had the pleasure of presenting the Women's Institute award to her niece, Brenda Yates. R.A. Cressman presented his special award to the student showing the most improvement Corned Prinselaar. The trophy, to the winning team on the annual school Play Day was presented to Brenda Yates by Mrs. Fischer. Jon Lumley introduced Mr. Cressman, guest speaker, saying that as a former principal of the Schreiber school, Mr. Cressman's interest was under- standable, and his interest now, after twelve years in the education, as supervising principal of elemen- tary schools in the Lake Superior division he is even more concerned in such occasions. Mr. Cressman said he was pleased to see the happy faces he had known, as principal, showing an awareness of their new status, realizing that graduating is more than just receiving a diploma, but a time for a rest before going on to a new adven- ture. He congratulated their teachers to whom this event represents an accomplishment, a gratification in their efforts. To the parents it must mean that all the hours of encouragement and insistence on study had paid off. Catherine Patterson thanked Mr. Cressman. Alec Gordon expressed the Board of Education's pride in the occasion, to both school staff and parents, and, the class, and presented the diplomas. B.C. Stewart, principal of Schreiber High School and W. Rowsome, principal of Terrace Bay High School, formally welcomed the graduates into high school, saying this marked an era, since this class would be first class to enter the integrated high school with two campuses. Rev. E.C. Prinselaar gave the closing prayer. Miss Edith Clemens was pianist for the evening. Following the program the graduates dance was enjoyed. Prior to the exercises a dinner for parents and graduates was served in St. Andrew's United-Church Hall. The graduates were Nancy Armstrong, James Baxter, Robert Bouchard, Robert Bryson, Jayne Davis, lan Fummerton, Peter Gerow, Douglas Glad, Terry Jartus, Deborah Jones, Brent Kushnieryk, Judy Lemgyel, Bryer MacKenzie, Catherine Patterson, Corned Prinselaar, Joan Richardson, Michael Roen, Russell Roffey, Jo-Anne Sparkes, Audrey Spencer, Gordon Williamson, Brenda Rose Yates. Mr. Saumur thanked the students, their parents, the large audience, and Miss Wendy McEwen (con- vener of the committee-in-charge) whose efforts had made this, the second formal graduation ceremony of the school, such a successful event.
