TOWN TOPICS Mr. and Mrs. Del Weberg were hosts for a family gathering last week when the highlight of the occas- ion, and the most entertaining part was the confusion of similar names: Catherine (Katie) McCuaig, Don Mills; Catherine (Cathy) Weberg, named for their great grandmother; Catherine D'Arcy McGregor; D'Arcy Furlonger, Schreiber; D'Arcy Trowsse, Dartmouth, N.S.; D'Arcy Weberg. Carolyn (Carol) McCuaig, Don Mills; Carolyn Trowsse (Namesake) Dartmouth, N.S.; and Carol Weberg. All agreed it was a delightful party, except that no one quite ever knew who-was-who! Bill Smilsky, of Schreiber High School, is pres - ently competing in Track and Field events for the Hamilton Olympic Club. On July 3rd he partici- pated in an Ontario Championship meet, juvenile division, at London, Ontario, when the meet was held at Western University. Bill placed first in 200 metres; third in 100 metres; and third in the 400 metres, with time of 51.9 sec. Bill appears to have qualified to compete in the Eastern Canadian Championship to be held in Halifax on August 8th. In the meantime Bill will be competing in other events. Charles Wilde, his Pys. Ed. teacher, is very proud of Bill's achievements. Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Skinner of North Battleford spent the weekend with old friends made when Mr. Skinner was manager of the Bank of Montreal ten years ago. He has always been remembered because his initials and his blood type were the same - R.H. negative. Mr. and Mrs. D'Arcy McGuire and family are spending their holidays on St. Joseph's Island at their summer home. a Mr. and Mis. Alex McCuaig, with Katie, Donald, and Christie, of Don Mills, and D'Arcy Trowsse of Dartmouth, N.S. are holidaying with Mr.-and Mrs. Lester McCuaig. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Macadam are spending their vacation in Nova Scotia, with Mr. Macadam's sister , Joyce, and with their daughter Sharon (Mrs. A .R. Dejett) in Waterloo. SHOWER HONORS BRIDE-ELECT Miss DarylLynn Weaver, bride-elect of this month was honored by her friends at a community shower given in the United Church Hall on June 30th. Re- ceiving with her were Mrs. W.R. Weaver, her mother, Mrs. Ken Davis, her fiance's mother, and Wendy Weaver, her sister. The tea was poured by Mrs. Hubert Weaver, Mrs. Bill Lidkea, Miss Irene Spicer and Mrs. Leonard Hiller. The gifts were opened by Mrs. George Riley, Billie Weaver and Judy Davis. in charge of the guest book. The servitors were the Misses Edith Clemens, Anna Fummerton, Phyllis Wiznuk, Jayne Davis and Muriel Nesbitt and Mesdames Jack Gordon, Barry Harper and Earl Welbourne. Replenishing were Mesdames Burton Phillips, Robert Turner, Lloyd Small, Gerry Godin, Harold Gellert, Gino Caccamo and Alec Gordon. Margo Davis was J.W. Hogarth, commander of Zone 82, Royal Canadian Legion, presided for their regular meeting held in Schreiber. Sixteen attened from Manitouwadge, Marathon, Terrace Bay and Schreiber. Other officers present included David Gunter, deputy-commander; Bill Kujbida, Terrace Bay; Service Officer, W. Smith, Manitouwadge; secretary-treasurer Jim Tomson Manitouwadge . Mr. Hogarth gave a detailed report of the Mani- toba-Northwestern convention held in Winnipeg June 6-9. Plans were made for a picnic for the four branches on August 15, at Neys beach. Supper was served by the Schreiber Women's Auxiliary at the close of the meeting. ----
