PAGE 10 TERRACE BAY NEWS JULY 14, 1971 RECREATION NEWS DATES TO REMEMBER Art Trek = A 2 man resource team will be visiting Terrace Bay on July 26 and 27 to hold a number of art workshops. There is no registration fee for this programme and anyone interested in being involved in these workshops can register by calling the Recrea- tion Office at 3542. This programme is available to persons 10 years of age and up. Batik, acrylics and water colours will be taught; however, the instructors are flexiblé 2nough to deal in other forms of art as well. Summer Sounds 1971 - This young group of forty musicians and singers will perform in Terrace Bay on Monday, July 26th, at 1:00 p.m. at either the Terrace Bay Arena or wading pool lawn area. No admission charge . Ontario Council for the Arts = "Playground Arts Festival " = this 5 man team will visit Terrace Bay on July 21st, 22nd and 23rd and will be covering the following subject areas with our Playground staff and children: Music, drama, creative arts. Parents will have the opportunity of seeing this programme in action on the evening of July 21st. More details will be published in a later issue of the News. Minor Hockey Crests now available - A reminder to hockey players who registered last year that Minor Hockey crests are now available at the Recreation Office from 9:00 to 5:00 p.m. Be sure to pick yours up. Changes in Playground Schedule - Due to such enthus- iasm in our Playground programme so far this summer, our evening programme will be changed as follows: - Effective Monday, July 12th = 7-9 year olds will attend from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.; 10-12 year olds from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. and anyone 13 years of age and over will attend from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. The above changes were necessary to avoid over- lapping of groups during the evening portion of our Playground schedule. Adult Swim Classes = At present the Recreation Office is receiving names of adults interested in either developing strokes they are weak in or simply learning how to swim. These classes are available from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Membership in the Recreation and Swim Pool Asso- ciation is mandatory and you can register by calling the Recreation Office at 3542. Registration deadline will be Monday, July 19th. Are You Interested in a Family Swim Programme? - The Recreation Office will be receiving names of those families interested in attending a family swim . programme once weekly for the remainder of the summer. Please remember that this programme will only be offered if sufficient interest warrants it. You can register for this family swim programme by calling the Recreation Office at 3542. Registrations will be accepted up to and including Monday, July 19th. If you know of anyone interested in this programme, be sure to inform them that the Recreation Office is now accepting names. Terrace Bay-Thunder Bay Swim Meet - Terrace Bay will be hosting a swim meet on July 17th at 10 a.m. to compete against the Thunder Bay Dolphins. Help will be needed to conduct the swim meet effieciently so those wishing to volunteer please submit their names to the Recreation Office or any Swim Pool Staff member before 12 noon on Friday, July 16th. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Tennis now available in the Arena - The Recreation Department is presently trying out a new programme to be held in the Terrace Bay arena. Due to adverse weather conditions and sand surface courts, a Tennis court has now been set up in the arena and will be available to interested Tennis players who are mem- bers of the Terrace Bay Recreation Association. The following schedule will be offered: - Tuesday - 8 - 10:30 p.m. i Thursdesy - 8 - 10:30 p.m.; Saturdays 6-10p.m.; Sunderys'= 6 -8:30 p.m. In addition to the above schedule, extra sessions will be available upon request to the Recreation Office. If the above programme meets with some success, an attempt will be made to provide addition- al programmes in the arena; i.e., - badminton, volleyball, floor shuffleboard, etc. Junior Bowling Programme very successful ~- for the first time in some years, a Junior Bowling league was formed for boys and girls 10 = 15 years of age. A total of 48 bowlers took part in a 9-week sched- ule with games being held every Saturday afternoon. The one individual who was responsible for making this programme the success that it was is Mr. Stu Reid. The Terrace Bay Recreation Committee would sincerely like to thank Mr. Reid for all the volunteer = work he put into the programme throughout the 9 weeks In addition Mr. Reid who co-ordinated the prog tamme the Recreation Committee would also like to thank Marion Reid and Leona Fournier for assisting with _ the programme. continued page 11 .....
