Butler, chairmen of the advisory vocational commit- tee, reported on difficulties in connection with Manitouwadge students taking vocational or occupational courses. 1, the majority of pupils attending vocational schools do so at the request of Boards of Education, 2, pupils are necessitated by distance board away from home, 3. the remuneration to parent or guardian for room and board covers only a portion thereof. 4, some perents, especially where distances are involved, find 1t financially impossible to bring their children home for weekends. It was agreed to send a request to the Minister of Edu- cation to introduce legislation whereby in a jurisdiction of ten or more such students attending the same Vocational School with the round trip being 200 miles or more, that Board be remunerated via a grant so weekend transportation can be con- tracted, The following two resolutions were carried: that the board institute weekly bus runs between Manitouwadge and Terrace Bay for students taking the vocational or occupstional pro- gram at Terrace Hay High School on a one year trail basis beginning in September 1971, with a complete review in June of 19723 that the daily allowance for board, lodging and tren- sportation be increased to $4,00 per day, effective Septem-- Continued next column ,eee. It was agreed to have the board architect investigated and report on the possibility and cost of converting the apart- ments in Public School Apt. building No. 2 into married sccom modation by an addition to the present building, It was agreed to continue the Board's past practice of ad- vising parents, through the schools or otherwise, of the avai. lability of insurance coverage for students, pointing out tha parents do not always have adequate medical and dental cover- ege for their children in the event of accidents at school, and also pointing out that the Board is only liable for medi- cal expenses in the event of Proven negligence and is not responsible for medical expenses as a result of injury sus- tained during normal supervised activities. It is the policy of the Board to reimburse personnel for actual out-of-pocket expenses which they incur when required to be away from home on authorized Board business.
