MANNISTO'S PITCHING HIGHLIGHTS | Gulf Oil has grabbed an early lead in the Schreiber Fastball League. In the league opener Gulf scored two runs in ' the ninth inning for a 6 = 5 victory over Gibson's Mustangs. Alex Gauthier went the distance for the win. Barry Harper pitched the loss. Gibsons scored two ninth inning runs off Gauthier in the next encounter to turn the tables on Gulf for a7 - 6 win. Harper was the winning pitcher. In their third meeting Gauthier handcuffed the Mustang's with his stingy pitching. He allowed only five scattered hits in.a 7-0 triumph. After being rained out in their first two games Fig's Texaco finally got to play a game but were outlasted by Gibson's, 12-8. In their next meeting with Gibson's, Bob Fummerton and Stan Spadoni combined to pitch Texaco to a 7-1 - win. Pete Heenan hit the first league home run in this game. In the first meeting between Gulf and Texaco new- comer Dick Mannisto put on a phenontenal display of pitching. He struck out an unbelievable total of twenty-four batters in pacing Gulf to a 8-1 victory. He yielded only two hits in the game, both to Bob REY gr Fummerton.
