Mr, Todeseco, "Charlies" to everyone, arrived from Belluno, Italy in his early teens and was employed by the Grand Trunk end Canadian Pacific railroads until he decided in I925 to open a general store in Ressport and be his own boss. At that time ii was at the height of Commercial fishing and envolved long hours of work. His day usually started at 6 a.m, and ended at II or I2 midnight.during the fishing season. Several fishermen resided upshore only coming in town in the late fall, so their grocery and oil, gas or dry good orders had to be filled and packed to be hauled or trans- ported to them usually by Captain Fred Gerown on his tug "Rossport™. In 1928 he married Anne Douglas, a district school teacher who assisted him in the store. They have a son Jack who is on.the staff of the Confederation College (Lembton) at Sarnia and a daughter Camilla employed at Maryville, Windsor as a social worker, who wm home for her father's birthday cele- brations. Mr, Todesco retired from his business in I968 owing to being tired and the changes in the business world, Until 6 few years ago credit was a way of business but as he grew older found that it was too heavy a load to carry and envol- ved more work, A few years before retirement he renovated the store and turned it over to a Cash and Carry self serve system. Mr, Todesco has time now for fishing and hunting which he missed in his years of being tied to a store which is truly being married to the business in a small community. He enjoys working in his small garden. Mrs. Dougles wes dining room hostess for the occasion. Miss Camilla Todesco presided at the silver tes and coffee equipeges while Clare Anne McFarling, Rosanne Biouki, Deanna Douglas served the many guests, and Afshur Douglas served the punch, The tea table was covered with an ecru Swiss lace cloth centered with a silver bowl of bronze and yellow mums offset by bronze candles in silver holders. Mrs, Anne Needham made and decorated the birthday cake. Mrs. Ida Krause of Schreiber made a surprise presentation to Charlie of a minature grocery store placed around a large vhite cake made in the shape of the figures "80", Other gifts included a: 4I0 shot gun from Mrs. Todesco and family, and Mr, and Mrs, Jos Douglas; Mr, and Mrs. Arthur Douglas, a money tree presented by Ray Kenney and Camila Legault on behalf of Rossport and Schreiber friends.
