TEACHERS TO STRIKE - MAY 3, 1971 As an official delegate to the OSSTF Annual Assembly | would like to point out a few facts con- cerning the above headline seen in many major newspapers last week. Strike will only be a last resort if the Ontario De- partment of Education does not attempt to assist the boards of education where "ceilings" on educational spending are being a detrimental effect on your child. The Teachers Federation in a letter to Mr. Welsh on March 23rd insisted on an explanation from the Minister of Education. The Deputy-Minister of Education in an answer to the OSSTF on Thursday, March 25th admitted that "two northern boards of education were detrimentally affected by the pending ceilings". LAKE SUPERIOR IS ONE OF THOSE TWO. I would like to point out it is through the teachers efforts we have had this admission - the admission that Lake Superior Board of Education and the stu- dents of our area are detrimentally affected. It is now time for the politicians to speak to Queen's Park to stop the detrimental affect on our children. As teachers we urge that all citizens, groups and political bodies work together to insist that our stu- dents get the same opportunities as they would in any other area in Ontario. J.J. Prince, President, OSSTF, District 29. Every year some 5,000 drivers have their licen- ces suspended under the points system. In addition there are 40,000 suspen- sions for other causes. About 10,000 cases are reviewed each year for medical reasons. ONTARIO SAFETY LEAGUE SCHREIBER -- tS nn sp tt TOWN TOPICS : ' Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Spadoni are holidaying in Hawaii .
