The "well organized group of TerraceBay citizens" com- prises most of that town. After the initial announcement of the amalgamation proposal, the Board of Education received briefs from the Terrace Bay Town Council; Kimberly Clark Pulp and Paper Co. Ltd.; The International Brotherhood of Pulp, Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers; The Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 223; the Community Church Women's Auxiliary; parents; interested citizens; Teacher Organizations; school staffs and the principals. Are these respected organizations and individuals accused of ulterior motives, or are they accused of bowing to the whims of some small pressure group? Such charges must be based on fact. 2, it is not true that all these community organizations and citizens opposed amalgamation in their briefs. They merely re- quested information and hoped that organizational changes in their schools of this magnitude should receive a proper feasibility study before becoming fact. It is not unreasonable that people be informed, nor is it unreasonable that they be concerned with their schools. If amalgamation can be shown to be advantageous, an informed public will lend its support to such a move. 3. The Board in its collective wisdom realized this and ap- pointed a fact finding committee of Board and Teacher represen- tatives from the four towns to study the advantages and disad- vantages of the amalgamation proposal. As a member of this com- mittee | have been asked to notify our people of this in view of the misleading information in the "Trustee's Letter". sae 2.69 PREFINISHED MAHOGANY PANELS 4' x 8' sheets in your choice of Dusky or Prefinished Hardboard in your choice of 2.shades. A case in point is that the committee found the financial saving to be $9,000 to $19,000 less than that imagined by the "Trustee" , the range depending on the role of the vice-principal. The saving for each community could well prove negligible. The report of the committee on financial and =ducational aspects of the amalgamation will be fabled at the r xt Board meeting. Those who wish to be correctly informed should plan to attend. 5. The intention of the last paragraphs of the Trustee's letter is suspicious . Should we spring to battle stations and defend our- selves against the greed of other towns? Surely if the Board can do nothing else, it ought to be able to "orotect the individual rights of the four towns. The process of democracy based on the fact is a far better guarantee for our people than hostile opinions propagated by imaginary and incor- rect allegations. We would be far better served by statements that foster govil than thoss of parochial discord. Yours very truly, R. G. Gilmour, ( Member of Fact Finding Commies) Dear Sir, There appeared in vol wook's issue of the Echo a letter written by "A Trustee". | wish to take issue on three counts: 1. A great deal of the material contained therein has as yet not been substantiated. 2. His / Her failure to mention that a 'special "Fact Finding - mmittee" was set up at the February
